In the light of another few scoreboard threads over the last few weeks and yesterday that I'm bored of reading I thought I'd totally contradict misen by starting another.

I don't know if this idea has ever been (a)mentioned, or (b) exists, as like I say I avoid scoreboard related threads like TK avoided his defensive duties.

IDEA = A scoreboard App for smartphones

So we avoid the variouss costs, purchasing, installing, maintaining, running costs etc and develop an app.

Would just look like a scoreboard but on yer phone obviously. Have a real time countdown clock inc ET and added time. Sub info. Team info. Adverts obviously. Goalscorers and times, maybe a bit of player/team info, lineups etc.

I might be totally talking outta my arse on this or it may have already been done, or not as it's not viable. I tend to think someone out there would have done it if so.

    Anyway I'm rambling now.

sounds like far too sensible an idea to take off...

Only one minor prob...Most of us can't receive a signal inside Oakwell.

I think that's a good idea. However, connecting to the internet at Oakwell on match day is a nightmare. If we've all got the app up and running, waiting for updates, I would imagine the problem will be even worse (if that's possible, I can rarely connect at all).

But... maybe it would be a lot cheaper for the club to set up wi-fi in Oakwell, that can cope with all those people, than the cost of installing a new scoreboard. Maybe not, I dunno, but I think an app like you suggested and a good internet connection would be a lot more beneficial to fans than a huge scoreboard.

I think this would be something worth bringing up with the club. Could pay for itself quite easily if the app were say 5 quid a season... only question mark is whether it would conflict with Barnsley World / Football League apps contractually..

Sky Sports Football Score Centre App

Does all that already - the subs announcement might be 3 or 4 minutes late but you get the teams, scorers, text commentary, live tables and you can keep your eye on the scores of any other matches that might interest you.

Not a bad idea if as mentioned our ground knew how to cope with people wanting to go on the internet on their phones. Might be a slight delay too between the time left in a half on the app and what time is actually left. If internet was easier to access fans can just go on websites like www.flashscores.co.uk to know scores from all over the world.

Why, what is the stadium doing to prevent web access from phones ? I didn't realise concrete and steel structures wee sentient beings and had cognitive abilities which enabled them to do this. Bit concerned now.

Re: Sky Sports Football Score Centre App

Toyota make every type of car you could ever need, but that doesn't stop Volkswagen from making them.

I think a BFC app would appeal to a lot of Barnsley fans. Not just those at the game, but fans all over the world. I'd certainly install it on my phone. Whether I'd use it or not would depend on how good it was, but the fact that Sky already have an app that does similar certainly wouldn't put me off getting the Barnsley app. If such an app can generate revenue, through advertisements or whatever, I'd far rather that money go to BFC than Sky. I wouldn't settle for an inferior product, but if the BFC app was as good or better then I'd use that every time.

I think it's more to do with the amount of people congregating in one area all with phones fighting for the waves.

    But aye, you were joking.

Free wifi in away end last night. And a scoreboard!

Your idea is good in principle but without wifi I'd be about as useless as Kayode at wembley

What about lettering matches in the programme eg Everton v Chelsea =A and building a little hut with a scoreboard. At the side in the away end and a bloke inside putting letters in squares along with scores eg A=2_1 etc etc. It could be revolutionary;)

This wouldn't interest me at all as 1. I don't have a smartphone and 2. I wouldn't want to be there all anti-social on my phone, flicking my eyes at the scoreboard is one thing but actively checking my phone is another (and too much like hard work).
