To an extent it doesn't matter. The constant chopping and changing has got us nowhere. Before the season started it was clear to me we were 4/5 players short of a team that could compete at the top end of the table and I've seen nowt to change that. Of the players signed mostly we have signed potential rather than the finished article. When Flitcroft was sacked of the candidates realistically available to us Wilson was a decent one. Good win percentage strong record of developing young players. Nothing has chabged in this respect.
Re: Pastas Stats Because it's still a statistic. If when Danny had come in we'd won every single league game to the end of last season we'd have included it in his stats even though by the logic we had we'd have to dismiss all the wins as it wouldn't be his players. It's same rule for wins as it is for losses.
Re: Pastas Stats You are seriously Blaming Hill for Wilson getting Barnsley relegated last season? By that logic I would like to thank John Coleman for our promotion last season and getting us to 5th place in League 1. Cheers John.
Re: Pastas Stats What you need to appreciate is the mentality that pervades at BFC. Hill was not the cause of that and that cause ain't going anywhere but he was a catalyst for it becoming more established and widely believed and accepted. The persistent trotting out of "over-achieve" etc coupled with just enough being good enough has created a mentality that is hard to break at BFC. It will take time to do so, if the will is there from above...
Re: Pastas Stats At the end of the day though - maybe relegation and rebuilding is what you need? There's no shame in being a league 1 team or infact getting relegated - if you had got relegated with Hill 2 seasons ago and stayed with him maybe you would be in the Championship now? maybe last season you would have signed Scott Hogan instead of him coming to us - Wilson does seem to be struggling at the minute and does he have a plan? I know some have said your team is too inexperienced and young? Our team is very young - I think our back 4 age between 19-21 and they all look like seasoned pro's Hill has got them buzzing. Watch out for Matt Done too. See you Saturday.
Re: Pastas Stats As Hill found out, it is largely irrelevant how the manager plans, the club, at least until recently, did not have one beyond "balancing the books" Didn't Flitcroft want Hogan?
Re: Pastas Stats I can honestly say id rather them just pick a manager at random every week than still have Hill. Some managers are good at certain clubs but terrible everywhere else. Alan Buckley is a name that springs to mind. There's no shame to that. In terms of the age of our squad something like 30 percent of the squad were yet to make their debuts befire this season and only a few had played more than 50 pro games. It'll take a while to settle but im also happy that we have tsken this route.
Re: Pastas Stats I think Hogan had trials with you the pre season before you sacked Hill? So Flicker would have been aware of him - and Hilly obviously kept him on his radar I remember seeing Hogan score for us 1st game last season and thinking - how the hell has this guy slipped through the net? He looked seriously too GOOD. Whatever you think of Hilly over there, his track record for spotting players for nothing and turning them into gold is seriously good at this level - and lots have gone onto better things. We have 4 or 5 of them in the team now - special mentions for the shining lights of Scott Tanser, Jamie Allen and Bastien Hery .
