The players he's signed aren't good enough except Hourihane. Both full backs (Brown & Dudgeon) can't defend and Bree is just a kid. The centre halves are clueless and our best one is being played in midfield. The midfield itself is powder puff to say the least and gives no support to the defenders but also apart from Hourihane provides no threat. Danny has signed 4 strikers and all are similar types of player i.e. not target men. The team and tactics seem to change every week with no clear purpose or signs that better things are to come. Danny has spent most of his career at this level with decent budgets and has done nothing but the worse thing is that he doesn't seem to have learned how to put a team together to compete at this level. Wilson's style of management doesn't inspire much confidence either, criticising individual players in the Chron for example, no good manager does that. So based on the poll on here overwhelmingly to keep Danny, how's he gonna turn it round? (I don't think he will by the way, not with the current players).
But the spreadsheet details finances, it doesn't determine who he signs. I'm not agreeing with the OP by the way just saying that he identified the players he wanted with the budget available.
Sign a proper right sided full back, and a tough influential central midfielder for starters. Go back to basics tactics and team selection wise IE. 442 and play players in correct positions.
I don't think he's referring to a financial spreadsheet. It's Cryne's son's spreadsheet of player stats. I think. Might be wrong though.
I don't buy into these rumours that Danny is not pulling the strings as a manager. I just think he'd walk if the Crynes started forcing a game of FIFA 15 on him.
I agree, these are Wilson signings it's ridiculous to suggest Cryne's son is signing players. He's brought in mainly poor players and he's not getting the best out of many of the others. I kinda expected a slow start with so many new players but 11 games in I didn't think we'd be getting gubbed at home with 8 goals against in 2 games.
In my opinion the players are good enough. Turnbull, M'voto, Craine, Bailey, Hourihane, Treacy Jennings, Winnall, Lita, and Cole with the correct man management and system of play should all be more than good enough for this division. Those players should be good enough to allow us to carry and bring on younger lads such as Bree, Smith, Digby ect. We do need some additions. A right back is a definite but more importantly we need a leader, preferably in midfield. But to have even one of the pitch would help. A big character who our younger players can look up to for what he's achieved in the game. In the last couple of years we've lost the likes of Bobby, Foster, Steele, Harewood, Scotland. These players had been there and done it and all reached there maximum potential in the game. They were model professionals who gave everything and knew exactly what it took to be successful professional footballlers. Looking round our dressing room now we dont have that. Turnbull is a good keeper but he's had more or less a free ride as a footballer so far. After that the experience comes from Craine and Nyatanga - One a good player who has experienced nothing but failure. The other a player who had 10 x the potential of Bobby and Foster yet for whatever reason hes failed to reach even half their level. In midfield we've got Treacey, Bailey and Jennings who could all be playing top end Championship. Yet they have all failed so far to reach anywhere near their maximum potential. Other than Lita, who is another player on the slide - the rest of the squad have barely even made it as pros yet - in fact some of them wont make it. Not in this league anyway.
I'm interested who the mostly bad signings are. 9 games in and making sweeping statements seems a bit early. A lot of people said at the start of the season we were 4/5 players short and we still are. Of the players signed only Brown (being played out of position) and Dudgeon have bern consistently poor. Others have flickered in and out of form as young lads will.
Not going to talk about the current situation as it's just not worth the bother, but I will pick up on this. Danny Wilson has previously managed five clubs at this level taking three of them to the play-offs and finishing 3rd three times. He's had a total of four play-off campaigns, although it should really be five as Sheff Utd were assured of a play-off position when they sacked him and would have been in the automatic promotion spots had they won their games in hand. At Bristol he had a win percentage of over 47% and averaged 1.66 points per game which would get you 76 points in a 46 game season and more or less assure you of a play-off place. At Sheff Utd, his last job before he came to us, he had a win percentage of over 51% and averaged 1.84 points per game which would get you 85 points in a season, guarantee you a play-off place and win automatic promotion quite often. He took over Swindon half way through the season, saved them from relegation and got them to the play-offs the next season. He got Hartlepool promoted from League 2 in his first season with them and they were safely in midtable in their first season back in league 1 when they inexplicable sacked him. They never got to those heights again and after struggling agianst relegation for a couple of years finally managed it. The one club he failed with at this level was MK Dons, but even then he saved them from what looked like certain relegation in the first season when he took over in December with them 7 points from safety. He got decent backing at Sheff Utd and Bristol, but no more so than the clubs around him. The likes of Wigan and QPR winning promotion ahead of Bristol. If there's one criticism you can throw at Wilson for his managerial record at this level, it's that his teams are absolutely **** when they get to the play-offs and lose every time (although sometimes on penalties in the final), often against teams that have finished with far fewer points than his in the regular season. If Wilson fails with us, it'll be an exception not the rule. We're not doing very well at the moment, analysis of the team is fair enough (although I think it's way too early) but claiming his past record in this division is poor and he's done nothing is just plain wrong.
You know all these managers we get through ? Does anyone ever think the problem might not be them but 'the club' itself ?
I am absolutely convinced that considering Danny's record in this league that you've just mentioned that if he 'fails' (definition required based on ****tishness on here) then there's other things wrong. I wonder if Danny has ever been described as 'open minded' before which Mr Cryne did in his piece? He was brought in to work with the same staff as the previous regimes and is now being asked to identify players using some new statistical analysis model. Maybe, just maybe, we should let him do what he wants?
The owner or the fans then? Not sure what else can constitute 'the club'. Unless it's that nasty, rude West stand causing all the bother.
