Maybe so if it even warrants publicity for over sensitive argies, I take a dimmer view on the Argies accusing us of lies for the last 200 years..

What's gonna be next, a ban on TV for films like the Dambusters and Where Eagles Dare ?

Let's be reight - no-one in their right mind would guess that was provacative

"Local councillor Juan Manuel Romano claimed the digits 269 on the number plate of the Ford Mustang Mustang Richard Hammond was driving were close to the 255 Britons killed during the 1982 war.

He also said the numbers 646 on James May’s Lotus could be taken as a reference to the 649 Argentinian casualties."

Fookin' paranoid if you ask me.

Have you actually read the article? According to "The Express" they have caused offence by having number plates of "H982 FKL" and "EKH 646J" as they are clearly offensive references to the Falklands War.

Or maybe "The Express" are trying to create a story when there isn't one.

Pure coincidence that the Falklands (FKL) war was in (1)982 whilst filming in Argentina?

Also FKL is the London stock market symbol for 'Falkland Islands Holdings' which develop the potential development of Oil and Gas prospects in the Falklands

It was probably Clarkson or someone from the BBC that pointed out the registration plate, coincidentally nearing the end of their road trip, to the locals.

Oh come on, you know perfectly well that Clarkson deliberately chose that number plate. The letter I isn't used, so he used an H instead, as he therefore couldn't put 1982 before the FKL, that being the year of the war. We are talking about someone who arranged to come all the way to Penistone for a test, just so him and that s******ing sidekick could make penis jokes!

They've done Syria, not long before the war started. They were treated like heroes in Damascus. Pity no one on the news has ever bothered to talk to them about it. They have people pontificating about the place who haven't been within 1000 miles of Syria yet they could talk to presenters who have actually taken the time to mix with the Syrian people.

They've done Crimea too. And parts of Thailand that no other western journalists have ever been to.

Can't stand the bloke's politics (if he really believes any of the garbage he comes out with, which I don't think he does, he just gets paid a lot of money for saying it) but the Top Gear Specials are some of the best travel programmes I've ever seen.

I half hope the number plates were intentional, but I think the link is tenuous at best.

Well two of the plates that upset them werent even the right numbers for what they claim they were in reference to. Its like going to germany with a plate saying 1948 and people saying its in reference to the war because its a similar year to 45. The other plate (clarksons) is a genuine plate which is on a porsche which was for sale and advertised as such when top gear bought it and the other 2. Ok therss a chance they scoured the country for that plate and then found the car was for sale and then even luckier found it was on a car of the right age and make for top gear. Or its just a car they bought.

Id say that the bigger issue in this story is the appalling behaviour of the locals making death threats and destroying a series of cars purely for having tbe wrong (but perfectly legal) number plates.
