Now I have your attention a few days ago the was a thread about if DW was sacked who should we get.

I thought I'd throw a wee suggestion in and offered the present Hamilton manager Alex Neil who has been working wonders on a shoestring budget.

I didn't realise he was not well liked as a player at Oakwell. All sorts of poor comments made by a few of you. Even you Jay had a go about his lack of inches off the ground. Now I know a lot was tongue in cheek and maybe he was not the greatest player around. But he is a player no more but an up and coming manager with a team playing some good attacking football.

Well guys Alex took his Hamilton side to Celtic today and came away with a fine 1-0 win.

Hamilton now tops the league. Well done to that man and his troops.

Maybe some of you who were a bit quick to put the man down might like to reassess their opinion of the man as a manager.

    Just Saying. ;)

We don't need a new manager, Ian.

I know that mate. Great win for the team and DW yesterday. Long may it continue
I was only trying to make the point to those who put Alex Neil down due to him being maybe at best average when he was a player, that as a manager he seem to be making a very good job of it.

Just as not every great player makes a great manager an average player might very well make a very good manager.
Can't take anything away from what he has achieved over the last 2 years. Brought his team up via the play offs beating Terry Butchers Hibs (LOL) on the way.

Hamilton play good open attacking football a far cry from what they used to play like.

It would appear that Hamilton have the Champions League spot all but theirs. LOL

Anyway the way we are playing recently I don't think we will be concerned about any Champions League football.

He was a £50,000 signing bigged up by the club, probably cos he weren`t a household name to us darn here, expectations were a lot higher than he could reach if yer know what I mean.

No, we don't. We've already got one. Only when that situation alters will we need one.

As far as I'm aware, mate, folk were simply pointing out his failure to impress when he was a player here, rather than his competence & abilities as a manager.

Yeah LIL I know. A lot of critisism of him as a player when the point of the post was Alex Neil doing well as a manager ATM. And this was a few days ago when folk were arguing over the direction DW was taking the club.

I don't think anyone gave him any credit for what he appears to be doing at Hamilton. Understandable really as Scottish Football does not get much exposure south of the border.

I realise that this form Hamilton find themselves in is unlikely to last for the season but up to now Neil and his team deserve all the praise going.
And in no way did I mean to undermine what DW is doing at Barnsley at present. I think the way in which I tried to bring Alex Neil's achievements to the fore went a wee bit wrong.

When you consider the financial restrictions he's under, Alex has done a tremendous job at Hamilton and there's no doubt if he continues the good work, a bigger club will come in for him offering a much better salary & playing budget than he currently enjoys.

Yeah I'm absolutely amazed at the transformation in Hamilton FC. A wee club 700 season ticket holders and obviously no money and yet Alex Neil has come in firstly as a stop gap player manager and has in under 3 years transformed the team. Now playing good attractive football with no fear. I was really impressed with them at Tannadice when we drew 2-2.

Maybe the next Alex Ferguson here.

Since Danny Wilson left in 1998, the longest serving manager out of the fifteen we've had since is Simon Davey. He was initially appointed as caretaker in November 2006 until he was sacked in August 2009. Whether that means we don't give our managers time to do the job, or appoint poor managers is somewhat subjective.

I was just thinking earlier Ian, when I saw you was top of the league (before the Hamilton result obviously). Could you be happy for a team like Hamilton to win the league this season, rather than Celtic? And also, would it feel like a kick in the teeth if you was to finish runners up to Hamilton?

Me as a neutral I'd love to see someone other than Celtic win the title.

That statistic big lil is exactly why we need stability and time. Let's see what Danny can do in five years rather than judging him on last season or the current squad which is still a work in progress. Patience is something that modern football is not blessed with but it's something we need.
