F*ck me! What the police did in the aftermath gets more shocking the more you read about it. Not only that, but it takes away from the real discussion about what were the causes for it and what can be done to prevent such a thing from ever happening again. Police are still dicing with fan safety, as anyone who was physically shoved into that pub in Huddesfield a couple of years ago can attest. But this inquest is going to focus on the outrageous comments made by the police and the government in the aftermath and, because they are totally guilty of lying and conducting a smear complaint, 100% of the cause of the disaster is going to be attributed to them well, which means all of the actual issues that led to it (poor stadium, poor organisation, fan behaviour, hooliganism that led to the fences being erected in the first place, stupid coordination of the emergency services) are not going to get properly addressed.
Would love to know if any footage exists of our games there (forgive my memory but) early 1984 ish when we played them in the League one week and the FA Cup a few weeks later (or vice versa). One of those games at least, the Leppings end scared me stiff, and my Uncle screamed the immortal words "somebody will get killed here if they don't sort it". It was all-ticket, we showed tickets at the main turnstile, then got turned back at the inner entrance where the stewards said it was full, so there was a tide of people coming in, and a tide of people forced back. One of the scariest moments in 80's football, and let's face it there were a few ! !
Amazing morning. Every single prejudice/'reason' folks give to blame Liverpool fans has been disproved by the bloke in charge of SYP. They lied. Simple as.
I'm not sure that's the case to be fair. The multitude of causes of the disaster have been known for years. Just look back on this board. There's posts going back years which correctly detailed what happened. In fact the Taylor report pretty much nailed it. The problem was what actually happened was ignored. It wasn't the popular narrative. People blamed the wrong causes because of the lies spread by the police, press, authorities and politicians. To be fair many people have pointed out throughout this was the case but were shouted down. What's happening now is that the those that mislead the public are admitting they did so. Which means people are actually accepting what has been in the public domain for over 20 years.
This is a belter: Insp Sykes has said he was wrong to tell Taylor Inquiry 2,000 Liverpool fans had no tickets. "I don't know why I said that." No mate, neither do the families of those that died. One could argue that it was because you were trying to shift the blame for the disaster on to the people of Liverpool. To be fair to you, it worked. There are those who use this forum who still repeat the lies you and your fellow officers circulated, despite being provided with mountains of evidence that it was ballacks. **** sticks and the whole thing is still covered in it. You did that Mr Sykes, you and your mates.
25 years worth of mis-information - ie lies, has sunk into the psyche. Some will still pin all the blame on Liverpool fans.
Yup, it'll never go away. And, they're a bunch of maungy gits for not letting it go. Your child went to a football match and never came back. The establishment lied about why that happened, tried to blame your neighbours, friends and relations and you're supposed to let that drop? Someone cut in front of me on the A1 and made me break heavily in 1994 and I still get angry about that sometimes.
My point was is folk hung on to this because it was what they read in the papers. Now the bloke who told the papers has said it's b.llocks. They've not got any argument left. At all. They didn't have any before like but you know worramean.
Considering the grudges I've held all my natural life about the most minor of stuff, the families have done well not to blow Parliament and SY Police HQ up.
It was in response to Gordon mate. I completely agreed with your post. As Jay says, mud sticks, and people have ignored all the evidence for years and focused on the lies. Which is why those that lied should be brought to justice.
"Sir Dave Richards, ex Premier League & Sheffield Wednesday chairman, has just been mentioned at the Hillsborough inquest. Details to follow. " Ooh please let that lovely person get some.
Both Dave Richards and Mr Sykes claim a girl was abused when she climbed the perimeter fence. Their statements tally. Problem is, they were in different locations!
I remember watching the reds play middlesborough in the 80s at ayresome park.. we were funneled into a segment of the ground which should have held 1000 at most and we must have been 1500 at least, I was shouting at two coppers that we couldnt breath and that someone would get crushed... they just laughed... The more we shouted the more they laughed... that day will haunt me forever..
When is the official truth about the miner's strike coming out? Will we be getting a inquest into what happened with police there?
Capitalising something doesn't make it any more relevant or meaningful it just makes you look like someone's dad texting... Though most dad's can actually spell 4 letter words. Examining your statement. You know that something is true - were you there? How do you know? Please enlighten us.
