It wasn't a ramble. Believe me, I can ramble. No, it was a perfectly reasonable response to points you made. Your thread opener questioned/doubted whether we were actually building a team at all. I gave my opinion on what I think the club set out to do in the summer. I've based that opinion on the activity I've witnessed, as well as the interviews/conversations I've heard/had with Danny and Ben. I never suggested it was going to be a success. As I did say, I think it'll take time to be able to judge it. But you're obviously of the 'right here, right now' persuasion from the stuff I see you post on here. Or at best, struggle with the idea of time/patience. If your OP was telling us all we're a selling club then I'd say it was a pretty useless post. I've supported the club for nearly 30 years, we've been a selling club for the huge majority of that time. Not exactly a new concept, pal. As for you suggesting Danny shouldn't be afforded any more slack than any other manager, I'd pretty much agree with that. I judge him on his current tenure, not his amazingly successful one nearly 20 years back. However, that amazingly successful one from years back does show that he's capable if given time...
It's ten games. And in my opinion, we've a better squad this year than we had last. But I didn't expect them to gel instantly and take the division apart. But then, I'm probably far too patient. I appreciate others aren't and that's why I'll happily debate with them, to see if we can reach some common ground, see each others views. You're a decent poster. I respect your views even when I disagree with them. But some on here are impossible to have a discussion with. Black or white. Apparently.
I don't feel a need personally, to put timescales, pressure on the manager/players. I know myself from my own job, that I work better in a supportive, relaxed atmosphere. Now, if indeed the current form (the first ten games) continues into the new year, then it will certainly be something to be addressed. Then. I see no point in wondering/worrying what might or may not happen. I could easily create threads on here every day, saying "what if we're top of the league in January?" etc but again, why would I? I might go get another tinnie out the fridge in a minute. But what if it's not as cold as I'd like? What if I get too pissed? What if I'm up all night going to the toilet? Chill art. Lets see what happens eh? Take it a game at a time. Or not. Not telling folk what to do. But you're asking the wrong bloke if indeed you're wanting other folk's timescales on when or when not to sack a manager. Again.
Oh, right. So we're basing this season, and this squad he's assembled himself on what he did as manager last season as well? Weird. I take it we're not basing owt on his previous season in League One? Or the last time he managed us? I only ask, cos I'm judging this season on this season.
I am not one of the "right here right now" brigade Trawl through, if you wish, and find anywhere where it evidences that I am. Unless you consider commentating on what I see before my eyes. if it's crap, it's crap. Is that being "right here right now"? Right here right now has often been crap. You have said so too. What i do hammer down on are those who seem to see beauty before them when it has been often to me a beast. Just cos they think Danny has a long term plan. Saying we've got better players when the jury is well out on that one. Saying we're better organized when we are not. Why pretend? Danny should be afforded the whole season, as you will find I have said. Even longer if summat can be seen............ But that should not stop me honestly posting about what i see before me each week, be it fair or foul. Alot's been foul.
This thread you created, I initially took as you declaring that we're not actually building a team/squad. You then corrected me, and said you were making the point that Wilson shouldn't get extra slack afforded to him based on his previous tenure. I've only argued the points you raised. As I do. But I agree that his previous spell is irrelevant in the main. It certainly shouldn't afford him extra leeway. But it should offer hope to those among us who are patient. I stand by my comment on the squad being better. I prefer watching these lads. But that's only my opinion. I can't prove it. Only going on what I see, like you. I'm not pretending we're anything. As you say, I've admitted we've been crap. Quite a lot. But I remain positive of better things to come. If it all goes tits up and whatever happens happens, then fair do's. But I prefer to be understanding, supportive at this embryonic stage of the rebuild. Others can do as they please. Such is life.
Wilson has to be judged on when his tenure as manager began last year. He inherited a crock of sh@t last season so realistically it would have been a tremendous achievement for us to avoid relegation. Did his actions on and off the field give us the best chance of escaping the drop? The facts say no. Some of the players he brought in were even worse than what we had. ie:Brek Shea Woods Frimpong His Tactics were Mind-numbingly negative, A change of personnel was required. Wilson rid us of the dead wood and recruited his own players. Credit to him Time will tell if this team will gel into a competent League 1 outfit As of now there is much work to be done i'm sure everything is being done behind the scenes to make this happen. Relegation again though surely cannot be on the agenda again.
And I'll continue to pass comment on what I see, too. Just like you, I also have an opinion on our club & team and I'll express it how and when I like. If it doesn't match up with your view,c'est la vie. I've enjoyed some of what I've seen and said so, even when we've lost. I've also admitted when I've thought a performance has been poor. I'll continue to be patient, I'll continue to be optimistic. There's nothing wrong with folk having differing opinions. But that's all they are, they're not facts. However, I'll do it without asking if a post has been written by a simpleton, for example, as personal abuse isn't my thing.
JLWbiglil the poster spelt it out in big letters and spaced it as though I were a simpleton and needed to understand it. Hence the post. Believe what you like though.
We'd only won one game under Flitcroft, so he certainly improved us. But our last month or so was appalling and killed us. His recruits were ****, but it's notoriously difficult to succeed in the loan market in January, and on paper, the like of McLaughlin, Hunt, Proschwitz, Lawrence, Shea and Frimpong ought to have been effective. But then, they weren't really getting games were they at their clubs? They were unfit. Some, unmotivated. Some, arseholes. But we had to try something. It's up to others what they think/do. But I'm judging this season on this season. If I included certain other seasons of Danny's to suit my own argument I don't think that'd be fair.
Marc. The majority of which was with players who hadn't or wouldn't be arsed! Thats why they've gone! Let and give DW time to get these new lads ready!
FWIW I still support Danny Wilson. But I understand why people are questioning him. Since he returned, the football I've seen under him has been $hit, many of the players he's signed have been woeful and we've been relegated. Not something you can expect people to just brush off. But just to repeat, for now I'm still behind Danny and what he says he's trying to build. I really hope he pulls it off
