I believe it to be wrong to comment upon our performance if I haven't seen it in person. It is probably inappropriate to comment upon the result for the same reason. The fact referred to, which is more important than either performance or result, is that we are, after 12 games, 11 points off automatic promotion and 4 points off automatic relegation. Which is not good. However, sometimes it takes a while to make it all come good. Not that it always needs time - look at what Southampton are doing with a raft of new players after being cleared out of their best. The (same) team Danny picked today is a fair way off what he played at the start. A pragmatic hefty dip into the loan market has avoided what may well have ended up as total calamity. So we're not done yet. Onwards and upwards.
I think we can forget automatic promotion this season but I don't think we'll have any relegation worries either. Play offs at best but a comfortable mid table finish is most likely in my opinion.
Agreed. Playoffs would be nice and definitely achievable, but I reckon we'll just miss out after a strong finish and a proper tilt at the title next season. Obviously you always want promotion if it's there but the old adage about going up a season too early does contain some truth - Andy Ritchie's team is a case in point. Good at 3rd tier level but not outstanding, it was then a constant struggle to establish ourselves at second tier level, with too much short termism and plugging of holes due to necessity. Much more difficult to build long-term with the threat of relegation constantly hanging over your shoulder.
Disagree, It is not wrong or inappropriate to comment on results and performances if you haven,t been to the game. It's quite plausible to listen to live commentary, listen to/read match stats and make comments about the game. Folk who have been to the same games often have differing views and opinions anyway. I've always been of the opinion that we'll be mid-table side. Seems some folk on here agree with me given that they're happy/OK with a narrow defeat away at the 2nd placed side.
Healthy to disagree. But your opinion, based upon what someone else has seen (e.g. live commentary), is hearsay, and thus devalued, even if yet still somewhat valid. Some commentators, just like the supporters on here, have an inbuilt bias. To your own self be true. If you have seen it live then it is down to opinion indeed. Your remarks about mid table and narrow defeat are simply your own opinion. "wrong" was the wrong word I used though in the original post. You are right. Instead of "wrong" please substitute "less worthy"
Of course my comments/words are my opinion. Not being at the game doesn't necessarily make my view/opinion 'less worthy'. Radio dee darr are not renowned for being OTT in their biasness for BFC. It is easy to establish when listening to live commentary on things like balance of play, shots at goal etc. Second half today sounded like we were undertaken th cosh a fair bit but defended quite resolutely and it took a great strike to undo us. Whereas in the first half we attacked with much more purpose and shot ourselves in the foot on the stroke of half time.
"sounded like" is all you need to say. Your opinion on the game arises from what you heard Not what you saw If you cannot appreciate the difference betwen the two, when we are talking about football being a visual experience, then let's leave it.
