Horses for courses, but in the type of game we were involved yesterday someone like Perkins to break the play up was needed.

Remains to be seen if Digby has the stamina and consistency for that role.

We need a player whose sole attribute is trotting about pointing?

I don't see digby been that sort od player at all.

He is more of a hoddle type player less industrious than a perkins type players. But superb ability

How he cam not get I'm our midfield is beyond me. He ia the best young player I have seen in the 40 odd years I gave been going

For those who remember Alan Little, id say he is the type of player needed. Gwyn Thomas or a Stumpy Sheridan to name 2 more..Am sure their must be one or two in Scotland somewhere that could do a job for us...

Have to ask Arabian Ian next time he's about..

There is absolutely no way he is better than umpteen lads that have come through the academy. Did you not see David Hirst come through. The buzz he caused in the ground in the few games he played will never be matched in my lifetime.

    1. He's very rarely fit.
    2. When he has played recently he's looked rusty and miles off the pace.
    3. He's very rarely fit.

Abbott in front of him for me as he offers more in terms of pace/pressing/pressure. Digby needs to bring that when he is fit.

Think it's unfair how Perkins gets spoke about on here. He had 2 very good seasons for us but all people seem to remember him by is his last few months

Agree with all this. Digby needs to go out on loan and get some games, if he can stay injury free for 10 minutes. Injured more than Wilshire

And you think Digby is better than them all? Wow, I'm having wine soon, no way will it be stronger than what you've been on!

The Perkins we saw in his first couple of years, perhaps. But the Perkins I watched yesterday (and plenty of times last season) wouldn't get in this side. Not even ahead of Digby. It was quite sad seeing him yesterday. He rarely got the ball, but when he did he never moved forward with it. Out of possession, he ambled around, seemingly hopeful of teammates getting the ball back. Didn't make a tackle all afternoon.

Now, to be fair to him, I don't think his teammates were much cop. And, he was in midfield against Butterfield, Hogg and Coady who would all waltz into the Blackpool side and plenty of others. In fact, that Town trio reminds me very much of the trinity that Perkins was a part of in 2011. Hogg playing Perkins' role, hassling, harassing, a nuisance, bundle of energy. Remember Hogg impressing me when he played against us for Watford. Quite stunning that Huddersfield have got him. Robins didn't use him enough apparently. Then you've Coady in the Drinkwater role. Box to box. He was fantastic for the Blunts on loan last season and at 500k looks terrific business. Nice lad n all. And of course, Butterfield in the Butterfield role. He's still the quality playmaker he was for us, probably a bit more savvy now though, takes less risks. But he's becoming a complete central midfielder. Wins tackles, goes box to box, reminds me of Redfearn. Seriously. Obviously I'm biased, but as nice as it is to see him crack one in from 25 yards, as I told him after the game it's the defensive stuff that I buzz off the most. His talent will always stand out, but combine it with hard work and you're looking at some player.

So I might be being harsh on Perks, whose legs have definitely gone to some extent, he's no spring chicken. He was up against a very good midfield and they blew Blackpool away in 15 minutes of fury. But he wouldn't get a sniff here. Seriously. Couple of times first half, he asked for the ball, 30 yards from his own goal. Then upon getting it, he dallied, delayed, before finally passing it back to the keeper. Then, remonstrated with teammates by pointing, as if they were at fault.

A David Perkins style player isn't required. Talented laikers are. Not triers and journeymen. Proper footballers. And thing is, we've got them. Bailey, Hourihane, Berry. And like Hogg, Butterfield and Coady, they're not very physical. But Huddersfield have Grant Holt up top who brings a different dimension to things. He's a battering ram. Takes a couple of players out of many plays, such is the fear he strikes in opponents. Which allows the midfield trio the time, space and freedom to express themselves.

That's what we're missing. A big lad up top, who can offer us an out ball. I'd say O'Grady, but I expect him to play on Tuesday in Huddersfield. I'll let you know if he's any good. And Paddy. Can't wait.

Antony Kay, Sean McClare, Chris Barker, Rory Fallon and even Danny Rose have done more than Digby has so far. And not on any occasion when I've seen Paul in the first team have I ever thought "wow, we've some player here". Not once. That's not being harsh, it's just my opinion. I remember being at Pride Park and he came on then, at 16 or whatever, thought he did well next to Butterfield and expected big things from him. I haven't since watched him in a first team game and been even slightly impressed, albeit, I've not seen a couple of his appearances such as the games away at Donny and was it Wigan last season? He may have been great in those, dunno.

The only time other than that Derby appearance where I've been impressed was in a friendly against Brugge (I think) and yes, he looked like a young Gerrard that afternoon.

Again, I'm not criticising him. But I find your claims to be somewhat bizarre. You're not just saying he's better than McClare, Barker or Fallon, you're saying he's better than Stones, Hirst, Butterfield, Watson, Eaden, Moses etc etc. Quite an absurd claim. However, each to their own, innit?

When have you seen this? When have you seen a consistent talent that puts him above Hirst, Tiler and Stones. As others have mentioned he's not even the best player to have come out of the academy in the last couple of seasons. He has potential but right now he is a very long way from realising it and even further from the premier league / top flight where the likes of Hirst ended up very soon after making their debuts.
