Why is Bree getting a lot of stick?

Nyatanga was absolutely awful yet again. Doesnt tackle, doesnt mark, cant go forwards, cant pass and cant even throw to a Barnsley player. Ramage was exactly as he was for the first few months that he signed for us last time. ***** and making error after error. Cranie was his usual no tackling, no leadership self. Cant tackle, cant mark a man and its a sad state of affairs when a player who just two years ago was seen as one of our worst is now our captain and according to most our best defender .Not because hes improved but because weve signed weaker and weaker players at the back since then. Digby was awful defensively and the central midfielders that Wilson seems to think are wingers did absolutely nothing to help the defense out.

Bree was the best of a bad bunch defensively by far and yet people are saying he needs to be dropped. Bizarre

Did you see Bree play at Peterborough?

Nyatanga is being played out of position - just like Reece Brown. It came off against Bradford, but it's not a viable option. Even at this level, other teams do their homework and suss things out. After the Ramage and Cranie horror show last night I'd give Brown and Nyatanga (or Big Jean) a try in the middle. We can hardly ship more goals than we have been doing at home, can we?

I said on this forum after the game that Bree was poor.

He has no pace. Fact. He'll never have any pace!! He was bullied mercilessly by the Peterborough winger.

Apparently, he was **** then as well. Set up our goal, like, wasn't at fault for any of the Posh goals, but yep, he struggled apparently.

Bobby had no pace either but id have him in the squad over at least 5 different players at the moment

Stu, chill art mate. You've a reight Bree in your bonnet.

The lad is 17, just. So what if he struggled against a winger. He's not Maldini. And even Paolo had his bad games. I can't believe the need for some folk to constantly find fault in all of our players.

Andy, I am just saying what happened, mate. He got beat time and time again by the Posh winger. Okay, they didn't score from these passages of play, but I never said they did.

My concern is his pace. He also lost possession several times near our back line. I'm sure you've seen these on the replays on Player.

But, hey, let's just gloss over these points, shall we?

Is it a coincidence then that many people who were at the Notts County game are saying "give Bre a rest"?

He's 17 year old. He's played less than 10 games of association football. He will make mistakes.

Andy, I don't purposely look to find fault with a player. I saw Bree make his debut at home to Crewe in the Cup. I had doubts then, even though people were saying how good he was.

I hope he can keep his place in the squad.

What worries me is his lack of pace. Something the lad can't do much about, I'm afraid. He's never going to have any pace.

Not from me. He's had more impressive games than poor. He's been consistent for us. At 17, just. He wasn't great last night but he certainly wasn't poor and didn't cost us at all with mistakes. An average performance last night in what was a really poor performance from the rest of the defensive unit. The substitution baffled me.

You can't really compare an experienced pro like Bobby (with his positional sense to make up for lack of pace) with a 17 year old???????

Gary Neville had no pace. Or Nicky Eaden. Two of the best right backs I've seen. He's actually played most of his fledgling career in central midfield though, to be fair.

Bree is learning that positional sense, game savvy, gaining experience. He can only do that by playing. He looks to have the technical ability to be a very good player in a couple of years. Lacking in pace maybe, but so are a lot of players. He's no snail though tbf. Ideally he wouldn't be playing every game, but he really is the best RB we have atm, who else is there? Bit unfair on the lad for people to be even criticising him right now.

We're not playing world beaters week in week out. We're in League One. I'd be more in favour of letting Bree have a long run in the team. The more he plays the better he'll get and I think that he's been doing a fine job so far. He's certainly been doing a better job than much more experienced defenders who play alongside him. In fact I wouldn't even put him in the worst three defenders we had on the pitch yesterday.

They had nippy wingers last night and we've come up against a couple already this season, but that's where Danny needs to play wide midfielders to protect the full backs.

I'd love us to have a couple of these nippy wingers that everybody keeps beating us with..
