What's the criterion for being a good Rochdale manager? 'Get us out of the bottom division once every quarter-of-a-century or so on average, and you'll be a legend.' Great stuff.
Don't forget if Pompey hadn't been deducted points Hill would have got us relegated the season before he was sacked , having said that he didn't do as much damage to the club as Spackman even if they shared similar views about BFC and one half possession football
on current form we should be loaning treacy and jennings out before lazarus . always thought lazarus had the skill , seems to lack the confidence to kick on . good luck to him at rochdale and hopefully see him come back to us in a confident mood and in good form
Jennings has had made 8 appearances this season, been sent off, scored off the bench in the only game we've won when he's played and was only out of the side because of that early suspension and the injury pre-Rochdale. Massive (no pun intended) part of Danny's plans from what I can see. About time he justified this faith in him. Been generally **** since March now. Treacy has had 8 starts. Struggling to think of anything he's done really that's impressed me. Thought he was a bit better against Rochdale, but aye, considering he's only 26, has Premier League experience, international experience, it says a lot that I'm struggling to see what it is he's doing to warrant so many opportunities. I'm not suggesting RNL is this, that or t'other, and aye, he wasn't great at left back in a cup game (his one chance this season) but I refuse to join others in condemning his attitude or work ethic based on that very clear limited viewing. Do I think he's better than the other two who keep getting selected? Not sure, but in very sporadic appearances he's done more than either of them in his BFC career. And out of position. If/when he ever gets a prolonged run in our side - as others do - then I'll know whether he's good enough. But I fear his time's run out. But what better club/manager to go to than where he's just gone? If anybody can get summat out of him, it's Keith. Just a shame he picked a couple of wallies ahead of him the last time Reuben was his player. So I'll reserve judgment on it. As for Williams I'm impressed with his work rate, his desire and his direct nature. Breath of fresh air. Just needs to marry that attitude with talent and end product and he'll be a decent asset. Loan ends next Monday though. I'm guessing it'll be extended if we've allowed RNL to move out..?
Please don't continue this daft statement. It gets brought up regularly & it's daft. If Pompey wouldn't have been docked points it would've meant they had a much weaker squad as they would've had to balance the books and the difference in all likelihood would've been more than the 10 points taken
Your statement is just as daft. A cheaper squad doesn't necessarily mean a weaker squad. They may have got the chemistry right with less big earners and done much better. They might have unearthed some gems.
They don't keep getting selected though mate, that's the point. They've been dropped. Wilson brought in a replacement because neither were doing it for him. They were given a chance, they didn't take it, so he brought someone else in. They got more of a chance than RNL because when RNL was given his go he was much worse then they were. No one who went to the Crewe game can possibly argue that RNL deserved another chance after that. He was god awful. That doesn't mean we should write him off, but no one deserves anything in this life, they have to earn it. I guess Treacy and Jennings have shown more on the training ground than they have in games and earned the opportunity for another go. I would imagine RNL hasn't. Wilson has even spoken about this in interviews. There is nothing Danny Wilson wants more than Barnsley to win football games. It's his job, he cares about his job, he cares about this club, he has a professional pride and he wants to do well. In order to achieve that he will pick his best players. If he thought RNL was one of them he'd be getting game time. He's not being unfair to him, he's not picking him because he doesn't rate him and he's not doing anything in training to change the manager's mind. I know you like RNL, but many of us just can't see what you see. That doesn't mean we're right and you're wrong. He may go on to be a great player. But we can understand why he isn't being selected. We don't think he's being treated unfairly, we just don't see why he would be selected, because we don't see him playing that well when given a chance. You don't give a player a chance if you don't think he will take it, you give it to someone you think will. We think we've got better players. Every manager we've had at the club since he's been on the books has clearly thought the same.
Its not daft its a fact, if Pompey had not been deducted 10 points we would have been down, there I said it again
So right. Like how our better players this season will be some of our smaller earners in the squad and our bigger earners have been generally poor.
I can see everybody's opposed argument. And I've said myself that he's probably doing bugger all in training to warrant selection. That has to be the reasoning. But I'm not sure what Treacy or Jennings are showing in training considering the state of them. And I'll always stand up for our own youngsters. Did it the other week with Digby, then Bree. Did it with Rose previously, and Butterfield and before the internet was as big as it is now I used to defend Eaden and Moses et al. Morgan can **** off though.... Williams was brought in because Danny rates him. He admitted that he didn't need him at that point really, but that he couldn't turn down the chance when it arose. Then Jennings' injury happened. So I still don't agree that Dale's been dropped as such. I think he's missed games due to injury and suspension. He'd got 4 days training and 56 minutes in a 21's game under his belt before making the bench Saturday. That to me all suggests he's a key player. Not suggesting he shouldn't be or owt either. But he's not had chances, failed and been dropped. Not in my opinion. I still believe he'll come good. He's an asset when on form and fit. Treacy? I expect him to be released in January. But I'd love him to also come good for us. I'm a reds supporter, not a supporter of one individual, be that player or manager. My defence of RNL is because I do rate him, I do tend to defend the kids more and because it doesn't sit reight with me that he's had 1 chance out of position this season and been written off whilst others get chance after chance, fail, and look like Rugby players. If folk can't see my side of the 'debate' then that's a shame. But if he goes on and lights up the division at a club higher than us (which Dale are, sadly), and those in front of him here continue to play like they have been doing, and remain overweight, then I hope he's brought back and they're bombed out. Fairness. That's all it is, my argument. Burton at home eh? Meh.
Please dont start another splinter-thread about "how good a Manager that Keith Hill is at 3rd and 4th tier level". The bloke is an arrogant bell end that deservedly got the sack at BFC. On a positive note, I hope RNL does prove to be a success for you, cos if he is a success it means he is starting to fulfill his potential. Keep us posted 442.
Agreed. That ended when we went there in dire form and beat his side. But I hope he gets the best out of Reuben.
