    Sounds like my place too. You get a higher grade role and have to do it on the same pay/conditions until the start of the next financial year *if* your application for promotion is successful. Doesn't exact make you want to apply for some of the roles that come up...

    I've had the argument for years and I've even told good people that to get the package on offer they are better of resigning and applying as an external candidate. It seems that they are willing to pay 'Fred Bloggs' off the street who has to prove himself in every apect of the job more money than somebody loyal who has worked hard and deserves the role on merit gained through the hard work and competence shown while working for the company. It stinks.
