Update to this, I got the job and slightly higher salary than I was pitching for as well! Last Monday I left home at 7am to give it a try (also needed to drop off some documents so rather than post them) and got to the office at 8:40am. Awful drive though with the roadworks but even then it wasn't bad as I was getting off the M1 at a reasonable time and Sat nav was giving me an estimated arrival of 8:20 but it was solid traffic all the way in. Decided to take the train, there is a free bus from the station to the office. All set to start on 10th Nov
For train just see if a Barnsley to Sheffield railmaster or other season ticket then one from Sheffield to Nottingham is cheaper Only thing is need to switch train I guess from northern fail to East Midlands A return to forest broken down that way a lot cheaper
Thanks for that thought. Just checked and it's £45 a month cheaper! But can I go to Barnsley station and buy a season ticket from Sheff to Nottingham? Don't see why I'd need to change trains though if it's the through train
You should be able to buy most things from any manned station. Cheaper cost will be with assumption to switch to East Midlands train at Sheffield.
Even looking on the Northern Rail site they show up cheaper if split. So if need be I'll just get off the train in Sheff and back on again! Conning barstewards!
Less of the old! Oh ok then! Even better they are bucking the trend and bringing work back onshore, hence expanding the team. It's Application Support though rather than programming, which suits me fine, prefer the problem solving aspect rather than a year working on a project.
Is it Atos? Probably the reason to bring Cobol back onshore is that India doesn't have anyone that has been around long enough to have Cobol experience and with wage increases (~10% per year in Mumbai) its getting to the stage where salaries are comparable...
No, fecking thank goodness I didn't have to end up working for Atos! It's with Experian. It was comforting in the interview how often the hiring manager was saying how good a fit it was. India have loads of Cobol programmers - hence Lloyds offshoring so much. Although I think I see what you are getting at, that they could get folks fresh out of uni, give them a bit of training and employ much cheaper than in UK, now salaries increasing over there then might as well get the experience as well.
