I think McNulty is the worst centre half to play for us, but he always played with decent players (compared to your opening two)

Didn't Wiseman sometimes move across to centre-back in one of Hilldiola's tactical break-throughs?

Perhaps there was an occasion when he and McNulty played together in that case?

Personally I don't think wiseman was as bad as some made out. But I can see why some would put him in our worst team

Handyside and Ireland were pretty bad.

    Thought Handyside was rotten.

Ireland seemed steady enough to me, though.

(At that time I was just happy we could put a team out, though, so my view of what was and wasn't a competent footballer in those days might be a bit skewed!)

Ireland was better than Handyside yep, but together they were pretty bad.

    Handyside & Ireland ?

Up to the Dec of 2003/4 when we were top 4 for most of the time with those 2 at the back we conceded 26 goals in 20 league games.

    We've shipped 24 in 14 so far.

Not an opinion I subscribe to at all. There was nothing fancy about them. They were head it away, boot it in to the stands centre halves. That suited me fine considering the state the club was in. We've had much, much better, but also a lot worse imho. Paul Hart replaced them with Matt Carbon and Tony Vaughan. I thought Ireland and Handyside were miles better even if they didn't have the pedigree.

I'd not argue with that dire duo.

    Wasn't Hedworth a full-back?

I seem to remember a Peter Burke playing a few games for us in the mid-70's and being poor. Anyone else remember him?

Didnt JCR also try playing there when Wavey Davey was playing his mind games with him?

I once saw him kick a winger over the wall into the bottom of the Brewery stand in a reserve game. Probably the highlight of my reserve watching days (except for the 9-1 or so against Wigan).
