What gets me is that if their favourite band pitched up in Barnsley and tha could only get tickets online, the queue of internet-less punters at the library would be round the corner. But when it comes to BFC they expect cheap tickets to be personally delivered by carrier pigeon in a gold envelope.

    Bloody hell, talk about paranoid...

If you needed a new car, say for 20k, would you go and draw out 1000 £20 notes and take them to the dealership in a suitcase?

I wouldn't like to be you when the world finally moves to a stage where everything is bought online... wont be long.

Most venues for music if you turn up and buy them from the box office in person are much cheaper than buying on line. Academy in Sheffield/Leeds 50p if you do it in person. Leadmill no mark up at all.

I know & I agree with you. I was just trying to play devil advocate for teh people who don't have the internet, and I know quite a few.

It's great that we're all getting behind this push to make the box office staff redundant.

Can't wait for the day when everything is bought online. There'll be no fecker buying owt though because nobody will be earning any money.

That's not true at all, its a common misconception that online shopping has no jobs, people like me, who make websites, and software, and the people who work on tech support, and all the other countless jobs created.

From a selfish point of view, I look forward to it.

The flaw in your logic is that you print your own ticket for a tenner or have the ticket 'credited' to your season ticket/card. There's no pay a tenner pick up ticket from club option, ergo they save printing expenses.

Those jobs already exist. Do you think there'll be enough of those jobs to replace the employment of sales staff? Job for job? Nowt like. A lot of people don't have the technical mind to do computer based jobs either.

Humans slowly being replaced by computers in the working world. And we're all for it.

Not sure I totally agree but there's certainly a mark up for those who pay on the door

I don't think that they are. See it more as a discount for people who have, not something against people that haven't. The ticket price is £15 but you can get a discount if you buy online. If they don't do an online discount it will just be a straight £15 for all and I don't see how that will benefit anybody.

Again pay on the door if available at gigs is just the ticket price. No offence on this but I go to 2/3 a week. Whenever I buy tickets in advance unless there is no chance of getting them I travel to the venue.

As someone who administers several web servers for ecommerce sites, my heart skipped a beat when I heard about this, turned out to be nothing - I get the impression it was just the people who never update the software that are affected.

That being said, I worked for a large online retailer in the mid-naughties and there was a 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' attitude to software updates as the last thing they wanted was the site to be down while an unforeseen issue was fixed. The rare occasion we did do anything with the servers it would be at 3 in the morning!

We were using IIS back then which, to be honest, seemed to do a good job of breaking on it's own anyway.

really? in my experience, door prices for gigs are almost always higher than the advance prices. and i've been to hundreds. granted, there's no booking fee with door prices, but that's separate from the actual ticket price.
