My wife's school had a school trip to a Mosque yesterday

Part of learning about different religions.

16 of the kids' parents wouldn't let them go.

Morons.

Sadly it is. They've run it for quite a few years. Same happens every year although more refused to let their kids go this year.

Couple of years ago one parent said their kid couldn't go because they'd get blown up. Which is probably the most mid-numbingly stupid thing I've ever heard. She did point out that Islamic fundamentalists tend not to blow up their own places of worship but I think that was lost on them.

 

I worry about ignorance, not terrorism.

Personally I'm against all religion full stop. Wouldn't want a child to go to a Mosque any more / less than a Church, Synagogue etc but for education purposes I wouldn't have a problem with them going as its there choice to make up their own mind.

The whole 'I don't want them to go to a Mosque, they'll get blown up' is beyond stupid but doesn't surprise me one bit.

 

Perhaps they were all secularist ?

Yeah I agree. I don't blame the parents. You don't need to learn about religion. If the kid wants to go and the parents don't mind fair enough. It shouldn't be seen as mandatory though.

 

It's a school trip. By a secular school, teaching kids about other cultures and religions. As part of the ciriculum.

I didn't want to make flour when I was a kid but I still went to Leverton Mill.

 

Its ridiculous. The lack of diversity in York doesn't ehlp. Hence the attempt to actaully get kids to experience other cultures

 

People have the right to protect their children, and if they feel their children are at risk of being brainwashed into being Islamic extremists by being introduced to such places where some of these nut jobs are known to recruit, then they have every right to stop their child from attending. Not only that but almost all of these religious places have history of grooming and fiddling with kids, so I can understand why some people wish to keep their children away, now if they are justified in taking this stance is another matter completely but you can't be too careful where kids are concerned

 

No helping some people in afraid. A lot of people are stuck in either a prehistoric mind set or have been scared to death by what they read in the papers or see on TV. That said, when I was at school, some parents refused their children a visit to a church so I suppose it's more ignorance than racism.

Refusing your child the opportunity to experience other cultures is just promoting them to be prejudice.

 

i wonder how many muslim kids visit our churches and try and understand our cultures

 

I'm sure the adults to every 4 kids on the trip would manage to stop the kids being groomed and radicalised during the hour in the mosque
