Who Does Trotta Replace?

But he isn't. He has a good touch with subtle short passes and flicks. He is not strong in the air and that is why it was Winnall and not him that was defending corners. He is just like Mike Sheron.

I propose that we adjourn this discussion until he has played a few more games. My reason for posting was a general disappointment with his style, but I guess that I should temper my initial disappointment until he is match fit.

 

And it's taken you all of 80 minutes to decide that?

I'd expect a man of your experience to be a tad more patient before judging young footballers.

I was impressed with him. Those I was with yesterday too, were impressed with him.

Whether I was impressed or not is not at all my point. He clearly has a very good first touch and good vision on the pass. As an individual, I thought Trotta had a very decent game. All of the points and comments that I have made are to do with the balance of the team, which I have gone on about at extraordinary length, and which is very important to the ability of the team to play better than the sum of its parts.

There is little point in our continuing this debate though because we both only have the evidence of 80 minutes from yesterday, on which basis we have failed to agree. I look forward to you proving me wrong on the basis of future evidence because that will mean that Trotta is playing and the team is winning. It is a debate that I look forward to losing.

 

I like Trotta looks like a good player with excellent technique. I think its fair to say that he is not the 'traditional' target man. Whether we need the 'tradtional' style target man is another question. As the game developed he looked to be developing an understanding with Winall.

Occasionaly I would agree that we could do with mixing the attacks up a bit and moving the ball with more pace and direction. Theres nothing wrong with a more direct aproach sometimes.

Happy with the result yesterday not one of our better performances but thats comforting isn't it?

 

You make lots of good points made and I always enjoy reading your posts but I think your argument presupposes that you must have a big target man as the focal point of your team to play off doesn't it?

Surely this isn't right as I can think of tonnes of teams that have been very successful without this combination. Man Utd 99 with Yorke and Cole, Arsenal with Henry and Bergkamp etc?

 

He doesn't replace anyone, he compliments what we already have.

 

Does that mean we get to play with 12 or that he just stand round going "briliant job lads and oooh lovely earing Devante and stunning man beard Sammy"

 

It's not how big Trotta is.

It's whether he can hold it up.

We've been lumping it up forward for no good reason up until recently. If that's what you want to see instead of passing it round, then fair enough.

Seems to me that Trotta is smart enough to hold it if it's played to him other than above head height.

So he's mobile, and he tended to drop back a tad. He may have been wanting to do his bit on his debut.

He looks to be in the similar mold to Berbatov as a forward but more mobile and energetic.

 

thought he had a good game for us and held the ball up well ,won a few headers and linked our play up well . unlucky not to score early on too ,maybe he is not an ogrady type of target man , but happy with how he played yesterday

 

Trotta is a great addition but like everyone else needs to earn his place in the side and is by no means guaranteed a start... IMHO strongest strike force we have had in years and I wonder how we would have faired with this group in the championship last term?

Winnall, Lita, hemmings, cole, and Trotta...
Wow... Must be one of if not the strongest strike force in the division on paper... We have pace, flair, experience, proven finishers, a target man to link play and competition for places... Hemmings, Lita and Trotta not yet match fit but with games and confidence could take division by storm.
