I'll just appreciate him whilst he's here. We can't hold on to very good footballers. Such is modern football. I just expect our board/owner to get fair deals for these very good players so that Danny can go out and find another Hourihane etc.
We should let him go to Peterborough on a free transfer. With a 50% sell on clause. Let them sell him straight away. And thus end up with twice more money than if we'd have flogged him ourselves! It's that easy.
Oh aye?!?!? If only we had a former sports agent and/or a sports lawyer on the Clubs payroll who could try and swing it. Ni mind, back t'drawing buard!
If he tried that in january and Barnsley held firm then he would have kissed his career goodbye. Barnsley hold all the cards not him.
He's under contract for the best part of three years so it's different to other situations. If he's just got a mortgage on an house in the area then maybe he's settled and wouldn't want to put it back on the market so soon and move on. But if he's still living current in an hotel so has less ties to stop him moving on so, that could be different.
Hes got one big tie to stop him. His signature on a three year contract preventing him from playing for anyone else until hes 26 years old. Refuse to play for Barnsley and his career is over before it begins.
He'll have a host of clubs wanting to sign him, he could sit in the reserves for a few season if he wants. I'm afraid these days it's all in the players hands
If he sits in the reserves for 3 years he'll not get a move anywhere though. Not for a minute do I think he'd take that stance though.
I find it hilarious that a lad playing in midfield for us, scoring all those goals and assisting in numerous others is subjected to almost a character assassination over what is nothing more than a hypothetical situation by people who didn't even know he existed six months ago.
Seems a good lad with his head screwed on to me. He clearly has a career plan. We should be happy that we are part of that. I really don't see him agitating for a move at this stage and expect he will play the season out and then review his options. For once its good to have a slew of upwardly mobile players rather than having to pay them to get them out of the door so let's enjoy it.
Where has he demanded a transfer? Nowhere. His actions on the field show he's fully committed to Barnsley FC. So there's no reason to query his commitment to the team & club. Yet a debate takes place as if he has. Which is why I said 'almost' a character assassination.
I think our Chief Exec said it was negotiated even though unexpected because if it was to happen we'd get a decent amount, i imagine we have several other clauses in there too
