No but i was told by someone that knew him that he trained his jumping with bags of sand round his ankles - this helped him jump so high.
Reight laker. Him and Currie up front. Reight strikforce. Always put a shift in. Reminds me of when i first started watching reds properly that, home and a few away. Good times.
Not a nice subject but was his untimely death likely due to a football injury (like Hume), does anyone know?
That song we used to sing was brilliant, we ain't got a barrell of money but we've got cooper and currie !
Fond memories of Coops, that back flip after scoring winner in cup replay against Stoke. Was working in Paignton at the time. Rip Stevie Cooper Hopethishelps
I vaguely remember him, in my early days watching us. I'd have buzzed off him now like. My dad was a big fan of him.
Didn't know this. How sad. Mind I only just learned Rory Gallagher has died. (He never played for us btw)
Never seen anyone with a leap like Cooper had. And as much as heading was his thing, he scored some beauties with his feet. Couple I remember are his first against Ipswich in 1988 when he brought a long pass down with his right foot and stroked it home with the left in one movement, and a chip from about 30 yards in off the bar v Sunderland around Easter 1989. Still puzzles me why Machin let him go.
My all time favourite player, good player and a character to boot, port vale away when he took over in goal after beckford (I think) broke wardles leg was classic, beckford tried going in the same on cooper afterwards and we all thought cooper was gonna kill him. RIP Just checked and wiki says it was Robbie Earle, not beckford.
The blend of Cooper (physically strong and athletic) and Currie (skill and trickery) was perfect. I loved watching this strike partnership.
Was it Coops who launched himself feet first and chest high at Jim Gannon in a retaliatory attack within seconds of kick-off at Bramall Lane? Can't remember what he'd done but someone, I think Coops, took serious exception.
