The sentence where he says ........... "How can you sign a player that has not played for two years and seven months, I don't think anyone's in a position to do that"........... oh so the rapist thing does not seem to cross your mind then Nigel ????? HMM??. That so typifies Sheffield United and their attitude to thugs.

Take yourself back 30 years and imagine the response from his dad if Forest had tried to bring a convicted rapist to the club. Clough senior didn't even like his players arguing with the ref.

Tbf that's as strong a statement as to his disagreement of the situation that would be allowed without bringing his position into disrepute
Think his response would be quite different if an official appointment is made.
IMO I think Clough has been very proffesional in his response.

If you listen to his full interview I think it is clear that he doesn't agree with the decision to bring him back.

Completely agree. Clough won't want him at the club in my opinion. But to say anything regards the rapist part wouldn't be too sensible as it would prob breach some daft employment law if that was the reason officially given.

Evans is scum. The fans that support him are scum. His girlfriend defending him is scum. Any club that gives him a contract is scum.

Brian Clough would not tolerate long hair on a bloke (ask David Currie), so I would guess his stance on a convicted rapist would be pretty strong.

To be honest, Sheff Utd have handled this very bad. At point of the jury conviction, Contract should have been terminated and that is end of the chapter for them. The Club and the game of football is much bigger than the Ched Evans issue, and Sheff Utd should have seen this.

That said, their previous history and handling of the Morgan / Hume affair, always did point towards them making some bad decisions.....and sthey have, in the case of Ched Evans.

For me, Ched Evans needs to get himself sorted and ease back into society. Professional football would not be the immediate best route back for him.

Sheffield United have handled the whole situation very badly and it reflects very badly on them. They, in my opinion, always had the intention of bringing him back but have been stung by the level of public opinion against it and it has caught them on the hop. They are trying to ride out the storm in a softly softly kind of way and when it has died down they will sign him up cos they are desperate for a striker.

I would have more respect for their decision if they just came out and said they are going to sign him and anyone who disagrees with that can **** off - at least that would be honest. At the moment they are suggesting that they have just permitted him to train at their gaff because of a request from the PFA but have not considered signing him and won't for the foreseeable future - anyone who actually believes that must be soft in the head.

I agree. What can he do? It's completely out of his hands and if he kicks up a fuss he'll be sacked. I would imagine he doesn't want to get sacked over a convicted rapist. Clough won't sign him and if the club do, Clough won't select him in the team. If Sheff Utd want to Ched Evans to play for them they're going to have to sack the manager. Considering the position they were in when they sacked Wilson, I reckon Clough will be gone before it comes to that anyway.

The thing that sticks in my throat is that Sheffield Utd will probably make some good money if they do sign him. TV interviews, "Ched's first game back" on sky sports, etc etc.

Hopefully some of their decent fans boycott the games and they lose money.

If Ched Evans had worked in the ticket office for Sheff. U., instead of on the field, we wouldn't be having this discussion. He'd have been dismissed for bringing his employers into disrepute and never be heard of again.
And that's as it should be.

Absoluteley agree he should not be allowed back into professional football, immediately. He was a role model for many young fans and Shefd Utd should have social responsibilities and morals.

But then......how and where do you ease convicted rapists back into society?

    Salt camps in Siberia?

    It's a serious question.......

Daft thing is (well sad really, not daft) that the guilty one is released and in the news on a daily basis , on the verge of coining in £20k a month.

The victim has had her identity changed twice. Forced to move away from her friends and family!

It's all fooked up no matter which way ya look at it!

    he could have said

"No comment" on any questions involving Evans.... that would have been a better way perhaps.
