Didn't watch the England match today, went to see Interstellar. I usually do though, I'm still an England supporter, I still want them to do well, this was an exception rather than the rule. Just read the report and pleased to see they've won. Then I looked at the team sheet. There's a guy in the starting 11 and 2 on the bench that I've simply never heard of. The BBC site only list their surnames. I haven't a clue what their Christian names are, I don't know what clubs they play for or their positions. I guess that Clyne is a right back with him wearing the number 2 shirt, but I've no idea where Berahino plays and unless Chambers' first name is Phil and he's come out of retirement to add extra cover at left back then I don't know his position either. So the money men have done it. They've spoilt the game to the point where I take so little interest that I no longer know the players in the national side. For 35 years I lived and breathed football. It gradually began to fade when first I stopped watching any European games that didn't involve English clubs, then live Premier League games, then European ties involving English clubs and finally Match of the Day. I don't give a monkeys any more. Never felt closer to Barnsley though and I've started going to away games again for the first time in years.
I've stopped watching Match of the Day and pick and choose European games. I'm a bit of a hypocrite tho' 'cos I've got Sky Sports. I do watch cricket, boxing and Spanish football. I'm fairly happy with this England team; they work hard for each other and, Rooney aside, the so-called superstars have gone.
Brilliant and flawed. Too long, some boring bits, some bits that weren't needed at all, some corny dialogue that should have never got past the script editors, some trampling over the the whole idea of scientific discovery, but some genuinely awe inspiring ideas that were magical. In the end I liked it, but I would imagine some people will hate it. Can't help thinking it would have been far easier and cheaper for the scientists in the film to genetically engineer their crops to be resistant to blight though, rather than build spacecraft capable of travelling through a wormhole.
I must have fallen one step further than you then Jay because had I not read your post, there was going to be no prospect of me even finding out that they played. And no, I have no idea who they are either.
You're not wrong. I was one such person, for many of the reasons you stated but particularly for the corny dialogue. As a courtesy to my fellow viewers I managed to contain all but two of my snorts of derision. Paying £12.40 to watch it didn't help either. Daylight robbery.
Clyne is Nathaniel from Soton? Berihnio is a striker Chambers is that dude (full back I think) Arsenal signed from Soton? It's only coz I'm laid up and hammering SS, otherwise I'd be int same ship
Nathaniel Clyne, Soton right back, formerly of Palace. You might recall Vaz Te having him on toast the night he waltzed past him to score within 7 seconds. Very good full back, likes to get forward and now 23 he can defend a bit too which is good. Calum Chambers - ex Soton (broke through last season playing 20 odd games), only 19, signed by Arsenal for about £15m and more of a centre half than right back where he's played for England. Saido Berahino - 21 year old WBA striker. Born in Burundi but left the war-torn country at 10 years old and brought up by his family in Aston. Scored 9 goals last season, has 8 so far this season in the Premier League. Despite knowing all this, I haven't watched much Premier League football for well over a year. I might watch a bit of MOTD before the FLS show, but not often. No big interest in European football anymore, but do watch the odd game if it appeals - Bayern vs Barca or summat. Forgot England were laiking toneet until 4.45pm whilst walking the dog. Hugely involved and in love still with my Barnsley. But aye, for some reason my knowledge of players/facts/stats etc never leaves me. I blame my activity online where a lot of it is rammed down your throat and the fact I play computer games occasionally.
The only players I know exist are Barnsley ones, ex Barnsley ones or ones who have stood out whilst playing against Barnsley and possibly around ten others who I have heard mentioned by kids at school/been in the news for raping someone.
Couldn't agree more! Will still watch England and football league if I get chance and love local football but just don't feel the buzz for Premier League and Europe anymore. Too much of it, too much hype and associated nonsense. At the same time I'm more fanatical than ever about Barnsley, not least since I moved away.
Not been here long enough to have know it, though been told of a club at Kirk Levington that used to be popular. I live very near to the old Tall Trees club/hotel - also now rubble.
I'd never heard of Yarm until you started posting on here. I looked it up and it seems like a great place. Think me and the Mrs will have a weekend there in the new year.
I live very near to the old Tall Trees club/hotel - also now rubble.[/QUOTE] It's closed! FFS I've still 20-30 E's hidden int male toilet cistern from 1992-3 that I had to stash so I didn't miss coach home. Cnuts!
I was the same but my Mrs is from Boro and always raved about it. It's certainly softened the blow of leaving Tarn. Good pubs and restaurants, great for a boozy weekend but beware pricey women's clothes shops!
Personally I think Helmsley's better - a bit smaller and less busy (not as many "Ladies shopping experience outlets" too:wink
They'll still be there but might take some finding looking at size of rubble stack. Club completely bulldozed' hotel still standing but shut.
