Really hope we don't have one this year. Hope they keep their nerve. Just want to see this team finish the season, see what they can do. Play-off talk is daft, but, you never know. I like how Williams has changed his attitude since he arrived. First it was, "I've just come for a month to get fit so I can claim a place in the Fulham side." Then it was, "I've decided to sign for another month as I'm enjoying it here." Then, "I don't know where I'll be after January but Barnsley is a great club." He'll end up paying us to sign on permanently. There's a good atmosphere in that dressing room. Get a bunch of players who like one another and are willing to work for one another and you're half way there.
I was being facetious, there definitely seems to be a different vibe around the place. Given all that's been said about changing how we do things and getting younger suad together for the long term it'll be a piss take if we have 'that' sort of January transfer window.
I can't see O'Grady being anywhere near.He was league one player when Wednesday signed him then I recall reading somewhere that when he signed for us we took up his contract.Ben Mansford as always said the prudence of Don Rowing left the club in a good financial shape.Like everyone else I can only guess but I would be surprised if O'Grady was on any more than £3/4k a week.
Ben told me he was on 10k a week. He might have been lying though. And COG was on 4k a week at Dale. A rumoured 8k a week at Wednesday.
I can only go on what I was told by folk at Dale. As for us, Ben Mansford took over the summer COG arrived.
O`Grady was on over twice as much as Steele. Also Sheron was earning more basic than Dyer but Bruce had a goal bonus, probably why Sheron never looked bothered if he didnt score and Bruce bust a gut to get a goal .
Compete guesswork, as these wages discussion often are, but would say 2.5-3k would be more realistic. We can't afford them on our crowds alone, but maximise the money brought in by selling players, creating new ones to sell, then starting the process again.
It wasn't just Tinkler, if I remember correctly he wanted parity with him and Hristov who were on a rumoured £12-14k a week.
John Hendrie was on £11k a week in the premier league. I remember watching a programme with him on once (the regional football programme that came on, on a Monday night, which got replaced by 'late kick off'), not long after we came out of administration, and he stated we were paying ridiculous money in our premier league season, and went on to say he was earning £11k a week. Quick edit, the programme was 'Soccer night', which ended in 2008.
I think Jay is right. O'Grady was rumoured strongly to be on £9k-£10k a week. I saw most of the contracts/accounts when writing JD's book and no one was paid more than £6k a week - even after the Premier League season. Hignett was on £6k - and worth every penny. We did pay Kev Donovan £4k a week, however...
