We just can't defend at Oakwell. We've only conceded 8 goals away from home, only one team in the division has let in fewer. Worst home defensive record in the league though, but only Preston and Swindon have scored more at home.
Keeping it tight away. More expansive at home. I'll take that. Just hoping we've learnt our lessons for when some of the better teams turn up at Oakwell again.
I've just woken up from a horrible and very vivid dream that we were 3-0 up at home (Winnall, Berry, Hourihane ) and then missed a penalty to make it 4-0 on about 35 minutes. By half time we were drawing 3-3 with the opposition (Stockport ) having had three forays into our half in the entire match. I checked their bbs and their fans were laughing at their good fortune at somehow being level. I then woke up in a cold sweat. Supporting Barnsley is definitely bad for your health, even from afar.
We also fluffed a 3-0 lead just after Christmas against them around 9 or 10 years ago - but from what I remember they deserved the draw.
I remember us cruising with a 2-0 lead at half time against Ipsich about 3 years ago only for them to come out in second half and spank us 5-3. Think it was on sky.
To be honest the capitulation against Ipswich when we drew 3-3 after being 3-0 up with 5 minutes left was far more painful. We should have been so far out of sight it was unreal. My 18th birthday, ace.
Its not a case of not being able to defend , it's the avoidable goals that we ship that's the problem, when we momentarily switch off at key times leaving free headers or opposition players in the box with acres of space. Most of the time we are fine
Defend as a team. I think concentration and experience are key. It might now be November, but this side is still in it's infancy in terms of understanding and relationships etc. Which is why I'm as excited as I am by seeing them look ******* incredible at times because I fancy they'll only get better as the games wear on. I might be wrong, mind. We might slump. It's football. We never can know how it'll go, but it seems the BFC fanbase is as keen as they've been in years to watch and find out. Great being a red again. Been far too long.
