Backstory first: Watford wore yellow shirts, red shirts & socks. Liverpool had an all yellow away kit. Their option was to wear red/yellow/yellow against yellow/red/red, but it'd have been such a clash that McDonalds would have sued Vicarage Road for trying to sell Happy Meals instead of pies. End result: Liverpool used the black shorts and white socks from their old away kit of previous years. Don't get me started on when they played at Pompey.
It's all to do with the football leagues partnership with the national association for people with colour blindness. It is a statistical fact (probably) that the largest percentage of people who suffer from colour blindness, mix up the colours red and blue, therefore they should only be worn on the same pitch as a last resort. This is of course 100% fiction.
Made perfect sense to me. It's an away kit to wear in away games. If the only time we wore the away kit was when their was a colour clash, it would hardly ever get worn and less people would choose to buy it.
didn't we have to borrow a kit once as the ref was not happy ... Palace ? I think?. somehow recall that
