It all seems very odd to me. Players are signed, they fail, the manager moves jobs, he signs them again, they fail, he moves jobs again and he signs them again. It's ******* weird.
I have zero knowledge of the financial workings of football, but were I to venture a cynical view, I'd say 'agents' 'bonus' 'signing on fee' 'all **** in the same pot'
For me flicker signing Mike Pollitt as got to be one of the strangest we've ever made especially after the comments he made regarding Steele's age.
Matt Done - Keith Hill signs him for Rochdale. He's there a year, he only makes 16 starts for them, Keith Hill usually has him on the bench. This is in League 1. Keith Hill becomes our manager, we pay money for a player our new manager didn't select all that often in the league below. He's with us two years, he makes just 28 starts in that time, a few good performances, but usually meh. He's certainly not a regular. For some bizarre reason Crystal Palace offer us three quarters of a million pound for him. For a player that isn't even a regular in our team. We sell superstars for much less. We turn the offer down. By the time Hill is sacked in late December he's only selected Done to start in 7 games and subbed him off in all but one of those, for a player we turned down £750,000. We release Done at the end of the season on a free. Hill signs him again for Rochdale. For the first 5 months of the season he's predominantly on the bench. In League 2. If he gets a game he's nearly always substituted and rarely plays more than one game in a row. WTF is going on there?
http://www.rochdaleafc.co.uk/news/article/tomasz-cywka-joins-dale-on-loan-2105301.aspx? I wouldn't be surprised to see Flicker coming in for BFJ in January, and trying for Paddy on loan from Brighton.
Not sure there was ever any truth in that bid. Quite easy for a manager to put some crap info art for lazy journos to print, but from what I recall it was all from northen media and not from Palace site or the press in Sarf London, even their messageboard was quoting this board.
Now they've gone, I can tell you for a fact that a number of Keith/Flicker's recruits were represented by the same horrible lovely person of an agent. I won't be expanding on it though. Best left to the imagination considering the eyes are out there, watching.
I assure you the Done bid from Palace was real. Heard it straight from Don Rowing and reported it in the Chron. Done also confirmed it.
That's a bloody good signing for them. Very decent player on his day and should shine at League 1 level.
If that's true then superb business by us at the time. Taken in context with some of the other transfers we've been involved with and one has to ask 'what the ****' ?
Summat never wrung true abart it and am not doubting what he was told, but if yer trying to be cute you would expect all the people involved from the club to be on board with it. Probably me being too cynical.
You've even missed out the fact that Hill released Done at Rochdale but then had a change of mind and resigned him before he came to Barnsley.
