Yup, done Amsterdam. It's really good value. Look out for their 2 for 1 offers.

Couple of bits of advice: don't eat in the ships restaurants. They're expensive and ****. Take some snap with you and eat that. Take some ear plugs. Tannoy starts announcing you're pulling in to harbour about 3 hours before you do at 5 in the morning.

2 ferries run out of hull to the europort terminal. Pride of Hull Pride of Rotterdam.
1 is made up of portuguesse and english crews ( hull) Dutch and philippinos and a spinkle of english make up the rotterdam crew
you get a choice of outer/ inner cabins theres 2 and 4 berth cabins all en suite. You are allocated different cabins on return journey unless you pay extra to stay in the same cabin however a day locker is provided for storrage of bags/ cases on arrival in europort. You have a choice of coachs to either rotterdam or amsterdam....both extra £ the terminal is miles from anywhere though there is a good pub just out side of the dock...meals can be purchased in advance both breakfast and evening meals are open buffets eat as much as you want ....certain food outlets have changed in recent years.on board.
i spent 5 years working on the pride of hell.....it is so big its murder to keep clean lol ihad numerous jobs on board. Whilst i was employed as a steward...i did most of my time in the gally either as service cook crew cook / assistant store keeper. However in the 8 years i worked for P`O i did every job within the hotel services..
The trip is worth doing however can workout expensive....look out for the special offers around nov/ jan/ feb and march 3months when it can get quiet. Hope that helps pm me if you need to know anything else im still in touch with a few of my former crew mates

Not any more mate. Coach trip is included in the price and you book to go to a certain city rather than just take the ferry. £75 for two at the moment to Amsterdam or Bruges.

Two nights accommodation for two for £75. I don't think you can beat that anywhere. And you wake up in a different country.

Last one I went on made the mistake of not paying for the extra night so could have a night in Amsterdam, was too much to just do it in a day, and if your delayed getting in because of traffic or bad weather etc then you get less time in the city.

Spot mate but I'd pay the extra £10 and get a outside cabin, the cabins are slightly bigger plus you get a window,

Went on a few in my younger days when I was skint. Was the old ferries back then. Was always the 2-for-1, was always baltic and could never afford the extra night. Just got hammered and came straight back, feeling like $hit! Happy days

    Went to Amsterdam

a few years back. It was great except for the bus journey from the port to the City, it coincides with rush hour both ways and we ended up stuck in stationary traffic near Schipol Airport, it took nearly 3 hours. Not great if you're thinking of just a day in Amsterdam. We're thinking of doing it again but going to Rotterdam instead, much closer to the port. Or Bruges (different port).

    Re: Went to Amsterdam

We're going to do Bruges if/when we do it again. It's much closer to the port than Amsterdam, just 11 miles from the port to the centre of Bruges, so the bus ride should be nothing like the Amsterdam trip and you'll get more time in the city. P&O estimate an hour an half for the Amsterdam coach, just 30 minutes for Bruges.

Just on the ferry back from Amsterdam now, did Tuesday night till Thursday morning with KMLR which I believe is a Danish firm. Newcastle to Amsterdam. Standard rooms are 2 4 1 at the minute, so £80 for the 2 of us. The rooms are re very basic, no tv, bunk beds and toilet/shower combo. We ended up upgrading which cost a small fortune but it was nice just to feel a bit more comfortable. The boat itself is very nice. Restaurants, bars, casino, cinema, shops. Although the bars and restaurants are pricey. With our upgrade we got a breakfast buffet which was okay, but probably didn't warrant the price.

As for Amsterdam itself, the problem is, you don't get anywhere near long enough in Amsterdam. We were delayed by 45 minutes due to loading difficulties at Newcastle, and the bus to Amsterdam took 45 minutes from the ferry port. By the time we got to Amsterdam it was about 11.00 local time and the latest bus back to the terminal for the ferry home we could catch was at about quarter to 4.

P&O arrive in Holland earlier and leave later, however they land in Rotterdam which is a 2 hour bus journey to Amsterdam. I'd certainly recommend a mini cruise, went on a couple t Bruges with my parents when I was younger and loved it. Had a good couple of days this time too. However to fully appreciate a place like Amsterdam , you need a couple of days.

I can just see Newcastle in the distance, it's a sorry sight ;)

Went to Bruges last year and going again next month. Excellent value with the 2-4-1 can't knock it at all.
