    Hi all,

You're probably sick to death of us already, asking this and that but I was hoping you can give some guidance on a few matters for our upcoming game against yourselves in less than two weeks.

Firstly, and probably the most important, pubs; where do you recommend to go, and, not to go in Barnsley? What's the largest pubs closest to the ground? With the vast majority coming on independent coaches and mini buses from various pubs across the City as well as via train, they will want to head straight the pub as soon as they arrive! We've heard it's quite an intimidating area from those who have been before. To go along with this, where would you suggest parking for coaches/mini-buses?

It will be our biggest away following since Garthforth (you'll be asking who they are) a few years back, where we took over 2000 for our promotion winning game. I would say a minimum of 1500, but we said that at Blackburn many years ago, and over 4000 turned up (not expecting that, but potentially add another 1000 to our minimum).

Any help or further information would be great.

    cheers

You'll be ok in the chain pubs such as walkabout and weatherspoons (Joseph Bramah).

They are both on Market Hill, about a 10-15 minute walk away from the ground in the town centre and a two minute walk from the bus station, turning right.

Regarding the intimidating part, it's only like any other football match / atmosphere. If you want the trouble you'll find it for sure but again, like any football town and match, don't act like nob heads and once again, you'll be fine

Head straight to the ground and go in the Metrodome. Designated for away fans. You'll be ok anywhere though tbh as long asyou bbehave yersens.

If you've got bairns with you & that, head to The Metrodome - overlooks the away end, the coaches will park nearby and it's a 10 minute walk from the train station.

    Intimidating?

You want to try St Andrews - that's intimidating.

Barnsley folk are generally friendly and welcoming but of course there are some idiots.

    Re: Intimidating?

Cheers. We have more than our fair share as well considering our size but hopefully a good day will be had... may even nick a draw!

The Metrodome sounds good, cheers to other posters for the suggestions

Coaches park up at the side of the Metrodome where away fans are expected to drink. But it's only 2-5 minutes back into the town centre so you can always walk in with it not being far. Plenty of places in the town centre will be fine for you such as Chennells, Chambers, Corner Pin, Joseph Bramahs, Walkabout and White Bear.

If you like real ale, either The Silkstone (wetherspoons) or Old No 7. Metrodome is very away friendly, but it's pretty dull and you'll only get the usual bitter/lager. You'll be fine. We have our fair share of bellends, but luckily they're only kids and most of em can't actually get in pubs. Enjoy the day..

I always see everyone mentioning the Metrodome for away fans but I didn't even know it had a pub! I used to go swimming there all the time as a young 'un and I've been in the sports' courts but never knew people went there for a drink.

Some good advice from people so far. There's two wetherspoons (Joseph Brammah and The Silkstone Inn), Walkabout, Old No.7, Chennells, Chambers and Corner Pin in the town centre where you'll have no problems as long as you're not boisterously singing "Barnsley's a shithole" etc.

Not sure where you've got the intimidating part from. Most people are as friendly as they come and will happily chat with you given the chance. Like anywhere else, as long as you're not causing/looking for trouble, you won't get any hassle. Port Vale and Birmingham I would describe as intimidating. Barnsley certainly isn't.

Maybe the intimidating bit is the grunge kids that hang about the interchange, you know the ones who obstruct the exit onto Eldon St, in the hope of of being asked to move on, by Police?

    Thanks Jamo, really appreciated.

Maybe it's from years gone by, but the older Chester fans who would have seen us against you over the years have mentioned it was quite a rum old place.

Then again it's 2014 and kids are happy to wear the latest adidas trainers, CP company jacket and hold a pyro. Bloody casuals. :nails:

Like other people have mentioned if you come to Barnsley for a drink and enjoy the football you will be fine

If lads come for trouble they will always get it here

Similar to Chesterfield away on Saturday I had no problem drinking pre match but I know 100+ lads were there to cause trouble and they got it

So if your not a so called casual you will be fine

We've sold 482 tickets via your online ticket office so far, not sure how many we have sold through our ticket office but that's a good start. Speaking to a few people at the match the other day and they're paying on the day as 50% goes to our club so it's more money in the clubs coffers. People are saying that there are 8 official coaches plus the same from various pubs around the City so I think we are on track for hitting 2,000.
