We missed Williams. And Treacy showed us all in the second half why Wilson hasn't been selecting him as the replacement. There'll be plenty of folk focusing on the negatives, so I'll pick a few positives. Great performance by Turnbull, back to his very best. Excellent debut by Holgate. I hadn't even heard of the lad three hours ago. He should be proud of himself. I thought Lita was great. When my legs have gone I hope they're like his. Wish that volley had gone in first half. We miss that drive from midfield, that link between the midfield and the attack that Williams provides. With Williams out you'd hope we could have called on Jennings, but he's injured/out of condition. It's a vital position for the system we play, but Wilson hasn't found a good alternative. Considering who was available for selection tonight, I'm not sure what other system we could have played.
Maybe you're right. But I'm in favour of us giving him that chance rather than appointing our annual 'new manager' and being back in the same creek that smells of ****, without a paddle in 12 months time. The one thing I feel we need is to break from tradition, to give a bloke four, five years. Last time we did that, we did oreight.... And with that, I'll bid you fellow reds a good neet. Up at 5am. You tired Reds.
I agree with you, but given his track record signing players in this second stint with us, i don't think i trust him in the transfer window.
Building any team from zero foundations with little money is very difficult. You need to scout players well and make sure that in each crop you buy you have at least a couple who you will turn a profit on to further aid restructuring. Danny has done that. The older players he has signed have let him down the talent spotting can't be knocked.
Thing is (which is where patience is needed) how much dross did he have to shift. Then completely rebuild a side. We are 4 months in. But of course we should be tonking everyone 6 nil by now. Its been a massive turnaround and he cant do everything in one window. Which is why he should have a long term contract and a fan base that is a bit more patient than they are showing.
poor subs though. They got the sub board right the first time! Cole shoul dhave come off not trotta (unless he was saying he was injured). Cole needs a rest i think. All pace and shooting but even shooting letting him down. His crossing and ability to play other in around the box just not there. All he has on his mind is shooting - ad we wasted a lot of chances. Conor was poor again. Hes cost us as many possible goals as what hes scored in the last few games. He is scared shitless to go in for a tackle and is far too slow to track back. Berry - reads the game well but still learning his trade at this level. ready for another rest and regroup. Bailey - another one scared to put his foot in. We've signed a team of posers. Really lacking a beast in the middle to do the dirty work. Berry, Bailer and Conor frighten nobody and teams are strolling through our midfield. Overall pretty poor again tonight. We were left wide open at left back AGAIN and it cost us another goal. FFS get to a 442 and play people in position. Its like we are trying to shoehorn Cole in - does he have to play or something? We are going to be in trouble if we keep playing like that. Ball in the air most of the time, hoofing it long.... we are already playing like a team with relegation worries. Sort it out Wilson! I want you as manager and want you to build a team but i think you are over complicating things.
Spot on mate. As I've said I will write this season off in exchange for longer term progress. There was no way Danny was going to rebuild in one summer.
Agree wi most points on ere. Controversy point. We need a proper dirty fooker in midfield. An Alan Little, Gywn Thomas, Shezza. I really think a 'Michael Brown'(hate him) type. I think it'd do the trick, I really do.
The only progress I'm seeing is blooding young talent. Abbott, Bree, Berry are young and will need a rest from time to time. But with also Holgate and Nana having had games that's positive. In terms of results, on the pitch performance, ability to execute game plan A, switch to B , entertain the crowd and win games we should draw and draw games we should lose, offering up the occasional stylish comprehensive win I ain't seeing much progress. That's my definition. Not to immediately challenge for promotion but to see our ability to adapt, entertain and work up the table not being a loss or two from a relegation slot for the majority of the season. My patience is running out I'm afraid and I'm not sure what a successful season looks like from here other than avoiding relegation.
But the progress you're quoting is exactly why we're getting the inconsistencies & poor performances. You can't have both.
So you're happy with Turnbull Dudgeon Hourihane Berry Winnall Trotta Williams Ramage & Davies. I'll take that.
Not sure how you can be unhappy about a 25k gamble on Phenix who you've never seen playing yet but fair enough.
