Re: You're all missing the point It inevitable that taxes will have to increase substantially The mess brown left will probably take 50 years to recover from We have tough times ahead who ever is in power
No it isn't. The whole point of Economics as a discipline is to provide a framework for the allocation of scarce resources. Unfortunately the difficulty in putting a monetary value on scarce resources is exploited by business/politicians leading to overuse of resources.
You're just playing with semantics, the net result is the same, if business and politicians didn't over exploit, the economic system simply wouldn't work.
Re: You're all missing the point So, lets blow all the resources we have now on expanding outwards into space. We can then exploit the resources of the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Asteroid belt and Jupiter, etc (Venus is probably too difficult due to its atmospheric conditions) and create a market filled with unlimited resources...
The greatest victory of the establishment is to make everyone think there is no alternative. That what there always has been always will be. Cynicism. It's ugly. Go to countries without a voting system or those with a rigged one and you will soon understand that voting is precious . That choice is precious. There is a lot of consensus in British politics but also a lot of difference. I don't believe either Labour or the Liberals or the Greens or the SNP would have targeted the poor and disabled in the nasty systematic way that the Tories have and UKIP would. These differences may seem small but they are vital. None of the parties leap out to me but I know there are differences. If I want the Circle Line to be a circle again or the rich to get richer at the expense of the poor I vote UKIP. If I believe in a fairer society I vote Green. There's nothing more dangerous than cynicism. It's the voice of The Sun and The Mail making us believe that 'they' are all the same because it's in the interests I of the rich and powerful to make us believe that the only society available is one skewed in their interest.
Re: You're all missing the point You really are naive The situation we are in would have been exactly the same choose who was prime minister or whatever party was in power its just political posturing. And all party's/politicians play the game.
No it was to spend all the money viv Nicholson style If they had just saved a little bit for that rainy day we would not be in this mess
Its not a mess its a situation we have been in before and will again its all in the difference of running the country. The Tories do it by selling our utilities and helping their rich friends rather than the needy and wellbeing of all our fellow citizens. The deficit will be handled choose who gets in power the question is how we want it done.
Re: You're all missing the point That means that you must accept that Black Monday in 1987 was totally the fault of Nigel Lawson ? well he was the chancellor of the exchequer at the time so by your logic the decisions made by him would have been the sole factor that caused the financial meltdown. Brown and the labour government are not blameless but to suggest that they were the sole cause of the financial crisis of 2008 is not my view. It could be traced back to the deregulation of financial market undertaken by Thatcher in 1986 exacerbated by Brown in his tenure. Cop a read of this it's wiki but it is interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang_(financial_markets)
Re: You're all missing the point blair and brown were equally as much to blame as those before them, further deregulation of the banks, selling off our gold reserves, they are as bad as the tories, they just paint a better picture of it
Re: You're all missing the point Certainly were dek. As Thatcher before them and Wilson,Heath and the Unions before her and Hitler before them etc etc. The point is things happen to the economy every so often and the political parties of all colours and their sympathetic media and commentators are rolled out to justify certain policies. We know we have to knuckle under and certain things have to be cut back etc etc.but this is the best way the Tories and their rich backers can roll back the progress our forefathers demanded after fighting two world wars and refused to return to the same conditions these bstds wanted to continue. There is an alternative.
