Is it an age thing that football no longer excites/interests me?

On the whole football has changed dramatically over the years, lots of people feel disconnected with it especially when you see the wages being handed out to average footballers.

I also think the amount of football that's available to us as totally saturated the game, I grew up when we couldn't wait for match of the day to come on and the FA Cup was a huge date in the footballing calendar unfortunately now I find myself flicking thru the channels unless it's that rare occasion when we are on,

I cannot remember the last match I watched at home on tv. I watched a couple of World Cup matches in the pub, but thats it. I cant get to all the games at Oakwell, but because I stopped going when Flicker got the job, I dont miss it as much now as I did before .

I'll watch the big games when they're on TV, or when I've had a bet. I watched the Man Utd game last night. Generally though, I rarely watch middle of the road dross, or Champs League stuff when Madrid play some side from Outer Mongolia.

What annoys me most is that 22 players, plus subs, coaches and fans turn into complete arsewipes when the whistle is blown and cheat for 90 minutes. Gets on my nerves does that.

100% agree. I'd say the only part of the football calendar I really enjoy is the first 2 rounds of the FA cup when you see the non league sides beat league 1 & 2 sides. I keep saying to myself I'm going to go watch a few Rec games and return to watch the proper game being played by proper blokes from proper backgrounds.

Footballers such as Nile Ranger have caused me to really question the game, too many big time charlies or thugs running around earning thousands! While us, the supporters are lining these type of players pockets with money a lot of us simply do not have.

Its necessarily football but the way football has changed over the last fifteen / twenty years. My interest has slowly eroded to the point that if Barnsley went bust football would probably cease to exist in my world.

Possibly it's an age thing. My only interest in football is BFC (and that is more to do with factors other than what I've actually been seeing on the pitch for the last few years). Never watch football on the TV or read about it in the media. On the other hand, my two sons still appear to retain a general interest.

Same here. Too few football players to give a **** about as a person and who you can relate to. Got Sky Sports but rarely watch football. Prefer it for other stuff. Might watch Man City tomorrow night dunno yet. Not bothering with Liverpool tonight. Might watch abit of United/Liverpool sunday dinner. Never watch a full championship game on there.

I feel the same. I no longer say I like football, but simply that I support the Reds. That's pretty much where my interest starts and ends, besides keepin half an eye on my mates' teams' fortunes. I love the whoateallthepies website though, so anything funny, spectacular or controversial is put on there, so that's just about the only other place I watch any action. I've stopped watching England matches, wasn't bothered about the World Cup, never watch Champions League matches and don't even bother with the FA Cup final any more.

I'm even losing interest in the Fantasy League, cos I've never heard of half of the players. There are players playing for the top teams that I just don't know. I can rattle off all kinds of stats and facts for footballers from between 1977 and 1982 though!

Aye, I think it is, as a young un, watching the reds in the dark owd days in the fourth I`d dream of us gerrin in to the top league or gerrin to Wembley int FA Cup although it was to the final, this semi final malarky dint happen back then. Well av witnessed that narr despite many a fella stating it would never happen.

So as nice as it would be to see it happen again, my goals in the early years have been somewhat achieved and am happy enough with surviving relegation and mid table mediocrity in this day and age. The Flicker end of season survival will always stick with me, seeing the fans come together with the club and uniting as one is summat that I`ll treasure.

There is one childhood goal left, I wanted to see us in Europe, yep mad I know but we live in hope.

Over to the dreams of the yoof of today. All just carry on moaning its what am good at so I am told.

Other than BFC and MOTD I've just about stopped all viewing of football. I generally fall asleep watching MOTD too.

I do watch SSN though to keep abreast of what's going on.

I'll be watching Masterchef and The Missing while the game is on tonight.

It is hard to maintain enthusiasm for a game when your team and your national team have been losing teams for the length of time that our have.

Nevertheless, I think that the game has some fundamental problems that it is unlikely to tackle because of vested interests. It has lost sight of the fact that unless there is competition, spectators will lose interest. The Premier League just does not have true competition. The playing field is not a level one any more. It is dominated by money, first of all because the cash in the game is not shared in a way that will encourage competition on the field, and secondly because the cash that has come into the game is spent in chasing the riches that lie within the upper reaches of the Premier League, which has also unbalanced the Championship.

I also think that FIFA has taken the game that was codified in Britain and taken it away from the British, not by changing the rules, but by changing the interpretation of the rules that is applied by the referees. The game is now much less physical than it used to be and good old fashioned tackling has been virtually removed from the game. The game has become faster, but there is much more emphasis on keeping the ball at the expense of goal mouth action and by definition, entertainment. Managers preach the mantra of taking the ball into a corner in order to waste time if they are winning. Why does the game think that there is an excuse for not entertaining the paying public. We are so unlikely to ever win a World Cup that it may prove to be a blessing if we left FIFA and EUFA and re-invented the British game of football based upon the principles of entertainment. Unfortunately, the vested interests and the profit that they represent renders any change impossible. It is a great shame though because it used to be a great game and a far better game than it is now.

I find it very hard to relate to football teams in this country, especially premier league teams, simply due to the fact of there being far too many foreign players.
Once upon a time you could watch Match of the Day and know that the teams consisted of British players.... and you'd heard of most of them.
Interest dwindles when you don't know who's who any more.

The reasons could be many tbh .corruption, TV saturation, cost, other activities, players wages and behaviour and many other reasons.
It seems to me that the bodies within the game are only interested in what they can get out of it and not for the good of the sport.
The F.A ,F.I.F.A,and EUFA strut about as if they are on a UN diplomatic mission and invest in unconnected dignitaries and lavishly wine and dine each other in royal type banquets.
It a working mans game foremost and has been hijacked by businessmen seeing the potential for easy money and a rich lifestyle.sure the p!Ayers managers etc have got their share but its only the tip of the iceberg of what's really being generated and shared.one things for sure only the supporters are not getting any financial benefits in cheaper/value for money tickets etc.as soon as a club goes bankrupt its left to the supporters to save it until someone realises that they can actually make a killing out of rescuing it or rarely an ex football person or fan.

I haven't been interested in football (other than Barnsley FC) since around August 1992. Love watching and reading about mid to late '70s games and players though, which was when I first started getting interested as a young lad.

Rupert Murdoch has never been charged with the murder of our game.
