Anyone heard? Apparently had a fall out so no more delivery of Johns, Fosters, Amstel and Strongbow in all Wetherspoons..
http://www.itv.com/news/update/2014-12-09/heineken-banned-at-wetherspoons-after-price-row/ JD Wetherspoons has withdrawn all Heineken's products from its 926 British and Irish pubs following a pricing dispute in Ireland. Earlier this year a similar dispute with drinks giant Diageo saw Guinness taken off the menu at the pub chain's first Irish outlet. On the Heineken dispute, Wetherspoons said the Dutch firm had refused to supply Heineken lager - Ireland's biggest selling draught beer - and Murphy's stout to the pub. They had been selling both beers for well below the average price in Irish pubs. Wetherspoons' decision to stop selling Heineken products in all of its UK branches could cost the Dutch brewery £60m of business a year, although a Heineken spokesman insisted they are "seeking a resolution as soon as possible".
I drunk 6 cans of Tennants super at MK Dons away in the FA cup and it knocked me for 6! Didn't mix well with the crate of amstel I had! Bad times.
They've not got on for a while since Spoons tried to get Amstel at a price at which they could flog it at £1.99/pt. Heineken said no. Spoons were also proper pissed off that Heineken bought Scottish and Newcastle, as they saw it as a way to reduce competition and thereby increase the price it gets for it's beer. Just shows how much strength Spoons have in the market now. It's a big reverse from the old days with the large corporate breweries calling all the shots. Seems the latest row is another dispute in Ireland. The last one went in Heineken's favour when Spoons dumped Guinness for Murphy's. Seems they've properly come unstuck this time
Re: Carlsberg & Heineken=horrible lagers There are others that are not so great, but those 2 are gash.
Looks like Spoons want to pay bottom Dollar for everything. I've got little sympathy for Heineken, but it makes me wonder what sort of price they are paying to independent brewers (and food suppliers for that matter).
Don't believe the hype It's a factually incorrect press release. All smoke and mirrors, and Heineken products will remain in Wetherspoon's (I anticipate, especially short term). As for the comments like 'good', 'tastes like cat pee'. Yes it does, but thousands and thousands of people drink it through choice.
