As for the comments like 'good', 'tastes like cat pee'. Yes it does, but thousands and thousands of people drink it through choice

I'm a beer snob and make no apology for it

Me too. I remember seeing somebody ordering a pint of Carlsberg in the Devonshire Cat last year, and made a very snidey comment to the barman. Seriously though, possibly the best range of beers in the UK in that place. Like going to a Michelin starred resto and ordering a Big Mac.

It's alright. Tastes a bit like bog standard lager. But usually served warmer.

Why on God's green Earth would you walk into a Wetherspoons and order a John Smiths? Fair enough, you're in some place and its the only beer they have, you'd drink it, but what? You don't fancy any of the xx real ales on offer and would rather drink that massed produced cr*p?

Exactly. You're opinion may be slightly warped, but you're allowed to have it :)

Give over! I support the sentiment behind your point but you're way off with the Dev Cat love in. Get out more!

    Re: Don't believe the hype

Baffles me every time I'm in a pub that has a wealth of real ales and someone orders John Smiths!

A while back I overheard a bloke saying "Oh it's that real ale bitter is it...well I'll try it but I'll have to leave it if I don't like it" when being told the pub didn't stock John Smiths smooth.

I would say "good" about this news at Wetherspoons but I don't really care...I find it strange that Smiths is actually more expensive than real ale and yet people still buy it - paying more for an inferior product, well, if they want to subsidise my choice that's fine by me!
And someone else will step in, probably Carlsberg, to sell Tetleys Smooth etc

I get out plenty, though very rarely in the UK! The Dev Cat scores one over on most other places with it's asskicking bonus range of bottled beers, a whole room full - in the very unlikely event that you don't fancy any of the oodles they have on tap.

Smoothflow beers are possibly one of the worst inventions ever - I'd actually prefer to drink a pint of decent lager than any "smooth" ****. There's a curry house in St Petersburg that serves an Adnams lager which is absolutely sensational, cool and thirst quenching but bursting with flavour and hops. An awesome accompaniment to chili and spices.

i think dev cat is fab tbh. i also like the fact that it attracts large amounts of random goths! not a massive drinker in sheffield. but that place, kelham and sheffield tap all get my vote.
