It was something to do with an Englishman having to wear factor 50 and a Scotsman having to wear a bandage. Of course I don't have the delivery of Billy Connoly but you get the drift. :)

A Scotsman wearing a bandage? Are you sure it wasn't Rab C Nesbitt? :)

That reminds me: I'm starting to pick up the lingo. Yesterday's new words: "semmit and baffies"!

Fortunately my wife's aunt put me onto this very useful resource:

    Well done B R.

And what about Cludgie, Cundie, Scaffie, Bunker and Loabby Press. There's 5 to ponder.

Thanks Ian. I'm still working my way through the weather section of the vocabularly. So far I've got Blatter, Blouster, Doister, Flaff, Flocht, Gouster, Grashloch, Gurl, Howder, Jaup, Rumballiach, Scudder, Sweevil and Tousie. Can't imagine why there are so many words for rubbish weather.

Gotta say I've no heard of some o them. Lots of different communities have their own words for different things. I'm sure it's the same down Barnsley way.

Surely the only good description of rubbish weather is universal throughout the land. " Utter *****"

That's what it's been alright. The sun's out here now though and hoping for a good day tomorrow as I'm heading over to Edinburgh for a meeting.

I've been meaning to ask you: I've been toying with the idea of heading up to Perth on the 27th for the Saints v Arabs game although I might not be able to depending on family commitments. Are you planning on attending?

Nice one (and thanks for the PM). I'll not know what I'm doing until much closer to the time but if I'm going to make it then I'll let you know and we can try to meet up. I was planning on driving if I do come up but if I've got company for a pre-match pint then I'd better check out the trains. I'll be in touch.

It is something invented by those weather folk to join other twee expressions they use.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.
It's because "ooh, it'll be a bit cold and windy" isn't considered a newsworthy term.

    Weathergate. That'll be next.
