Saw this picture the other day of wartime elephants on the streets of Sheffield. My great gran told me a story about going to see them when I was really little and I'd never believed her.
I've seen some Big nose <gs id="83dbb2d8-471b-4952-a49d-27026a6b1973" ginger_software_uiphraseguid="6ea74cb9-904c-4e1e-9821-af4a5b404f8b" class="GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark" style="color: rgb(17, 17, 17); background-color: rgb(242, 242, 242);">feckers</gs> in Sheffield, but no Elephants.
They used to be used in the Railway Stockyards, and a firm used them too TW. Ward ( both down the Wicker)....they had an elephant in the company logo if I remember rightly.
what your great gran went to see Elephants when you were little but didnt take you - thats a bit mean. You also are older than I thought as it was was in WW1 did a quick google and I think it was actually one Elephant called Lizzie http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01s4mw4
The last time I was in Sheffield I saw loads of pigs but no elephants. Isn't strange how times change.
Yes Whale and Lion both true...saw them myself, the Lion used to live in a scrapyard in Monk Bretton just opposite Redfearns.
