I'm not on a 'side', pal. I'm just realistic. I know for a cold, hard fact that the problems in this country were caused by those in power, be it the government(s), big business, the bankers or the media (Murdoch etc). The hard working folk, such as myself, we're totally blameless. I just find it sad that lots of folk are too simple and uneducated to see what's in front of them, and hear a racist say "too many foreigners" and jump on that bandwagon. Again. Wake up.
Indeed so in love with UKIP are the Beeb that earlier this week Newsnight eagerly ran with the smear story about ‘sexist’ Roger Bird (no pun intended) and his treatment of Natasha Bolter, in the hope of reinforcing their standard underlying message of how unpleasant they believe UKIP to be. This was even though by that time Bird had started to release some of the texts she had sent him, which immediately cast serious doubts on her credibility. Heck, it’s almost as if they were so desperate for it to be true that proper journalistic scrutiny/integrity and actual evidence were afterthoughts. The piece included a laughable ‘interview’ with Bolter, in which she was all over the place, and her responses should have set the alarm bells ringing in the Editorial office, that is unless they were simply determined to get the smear out there and paint UKIP as something they’re not, before the full picture (which they clearly knew was still developing and starting to look decidedly iffy) became known. I note that as the girl’s position and therefore the story itself has quickly unravelled, the Beeb have now quietly dropped any mention of it from their news bulletins, rather than offering a high profile and grovelling apology. Not to worry – job done. Again. If I was Roger Bird I’d be giving the late Lord McAlpine’s lawyers a call.
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/may/30/bbc-complaints-ukip-election-coverage-bias I remember the way the BBC ridiculed and attacked the BNP/Griffin. It seems bizarre that the BBC now see UKIP as the fourth party. They've apparently won two by-elections so this proves it. But not really. Two Tories retained their seats despite changing political hats. Whereas, the Greens have an MP in the house. They've done a lot more in my opinion to be considered the fourth party than bloody UKIP who are a watered down version (for now) of the BNP. But the BBC are holding leaders debates ahead of the general election with Farage included, but not Green Party leader Natalie Bennett. No, not biased at all. Certainly not fair either. Public broadcasting eh? Now then, now then.
I love him. I'd probably bum him. I'd not let him bum me though, I'm not gay you know. Farage, I'd just like to fook him up in a different way.
SNP are clearly the 4th biggest political party and will get far more seats than UKIP but don't get invited to then cosy political debates possibly because they are leftish of centre.
They do in Scotland though don't they? Pretty sure they did last time. Be a bit pointless having them debate issues live on UK wide TV when they don't put up any candidates in any English or Welsh constituencies. Although, on that note, the Tories don't really belong in any debate north of the border as they only have one MP. The same could be said of Labour after the next general election as I believe their vote will collapse after the independence argument. Although Gordon Brown, one of the few Westminster MPs to come out of the debate with any real dignity, might just have saved them, but he's stepping down.
I appreciate your point but in terms of UK politics the SNP is just as likely/more likely to hold the balance of power than UKIP so deserve an equal amount of representation. Agree about Brown though I think he was the one person on all political sides to actually try to go beyond party politics andvaddrrss real issues for the people of Scotland.
I'm only joking about your man crush on him (no I'm not). The thing is that immigration is a big issue to a lot of people, or to be precise uncontrolled immigration and not because people are racist but because of the strain that it puts on public services. I'm neither a fan of Brand or Farage but on the issue of immigratrion I feel that Farage is closer to general public opinion that Brand.
I doubt it, but am done on the topic for today. UKIP are cnuts. For cnuts. Don't care what Brand is, but the issues he's referring to are ones I have too. He has the voice/platform to get them out there to the masses. But unfortunately, as this thread has shown, you who are siding with Nige can only keep on referring to immigration. Bit like Nige. None of you have referred to the issues I and others have brought up, the issues Brand talks about. Much easier to look at a foreigner and blame them rather than the cnuts in power I suppose. Country's ******.
So if any one has any issues or wants to get involved in politics and take on the politicians, all the po!iticians have to do is shout stand for election and its end of debate ? Some version of democracy is that ffs. Mind you it was Farage so no surprise how he debates how to get out of the holes In his flawed party . Anyone criticise me I just shout You stand for parliament to kill argument .simples.
Brand was superb Although he let himself down with his expressions when people questioned what he was saying
Mmm...but you have to accept that with UKIP doing well nationally in the polls, Farage certainly has a democratic argument for flogging PR. Just advocating standing for parliament is not exactly him being unreasonable. He could kick up more of a fuss about what seats you get for what votes you attract, with good reason. After all, he's stuck with our system and he's trying to make progress within it's confines. Nowt wrong with that. That's the trouble with democracy - there's nothing perfect about it.
I certainly do accept they are doing well in the polls but polls are not mandates. The only way to tell whether the ukip argument is popular is to count the votes in the forthcoming elections.the media would have him in Downing street tomorrow if we leave it to them. The European elections are not a yardstick for the domestic ones by a long way and the two seats they have are courtesy of right wing Tories who were popular in their own right in right wing constituencies. If they do well in the elections Individual vote wise i for one will concede their p!ace in British politics but they have to earn that right imo not shoved down our throats by the BBC etc. Still stand by my view that it were a cheap trick by farage calling on Brand (or anyone else for that matter) to only air his views by standing for parliament but tbh I though it were a great retort by Brand that he didn't want to bec like them (politicians. Agree with PR we should have grasped that olive branch but again the BBC etc bstds
Like or dislike Brand, it's hard to deny his points. The system is flawed and those with power in the system are motivated to keep it the same. Let's all argue over immigration for years which deflects from the issues which Brand was pushing such as the billions paid out since 2008. Like he said focus on that for 2 years, if it's ******** it'd soon fade away.
