They probably are yes. And from what I've seen Bristol City, MK Dons, Swindon and Notts County are much better than the likes of Blackpool, Millwall, Huddersfield and Charlton who we faced last year.

 

I think you can compare year-on-year in same division, but the accuracy is lost when you move divisions (sadly for us, a lower division).

 

I asked for stats or examples. The reason being that we are constantly hearing that we are making progress but the performances (to my mind) and the results don't support this. There is nothing to back up this supposed progress. I would actually say we are a worse team now than we were on the first day of the season and we were poor that day.

If you compare the performance against Bradford with the last three home games then we are definitely heading in the wrong direction. The future is grim.

 

Stats are Stats. After all you could take the statistic that we are around 20 places lower than we were this time last season

 

Yep.....Conan's original request was for statistical evidence, so fair enough in trying to support that.

My gut feeling though, tells me we are going backwards with very little, if any, signs of progress.

 

So because we don't know for certain if Notts Cty this year are better or worse than Millwall last year, we can't say if the Championship is a higher standard than League One? Based on that, being not quite as bad in League One is a sign of progress. Reight.

 

Nothing that anyone provides here will prove statistically one way or the other whether we've made progress. Assuming you had the data it's probably a good couple of weeks and a good bit of statistical modelling to come up with an answer that is anywhere near right. Until then all that you can feasibly have is opinions.

We're better than we were in the 70s. ....that's progress

 

We're 3 points off the relegation zone to drop into the 4th tier of English football.

That's the only fact I need to know to point out that we are struggling & at risk of this 'rebuild' putting us in a position that we haven't been in for decades.

It's impossible to call that progress for me. The home record, the inability of anyone to do anything right in the defensive third of the pitch, the ineffectiveness in the final third without Winnall & Williams - Danny has to take his fair share of blame & if the board take the decision that it's time for him to go, I'm not sure I could really complain that much, regardless of how much stability I have argued for in the past.

We can't sleepwalk into league two for the sake of stability.

I agree Farnham, dont know where this "we are making better progress then last season" came from cos the only way to progress is to get promotion and then stay up.

 

We are in a lower division, 17 places worse off than last year. We have 9 injuries to first team players and their potential replacements. We have not won a game in a month and look unlikely to win again until either the injuries begin to clear up, we manage to strengthen during the January transfer window or both. So no there is no evidence to show how we have progressed during the second reign of Danny Wilson. There are you happy now?

It is, I suspect, not our analysis of the current situation that differs, but our proposed solution. If your solution is to sack the manager, which to be honest is a little uncertain as you seem to be better at asking questions than you are at suggesting solutions, then this is where our opinions will differ. If your solution is to sack the manager, can you provide me with evidence that this solution has worked in the past. By evidence, I mean statistics that during the ownership of Patrick Cryne, we have made progress when we sacked any of the eight managers to leave during his reign. Not things like we got promoted under Andy Ritchie and subsequently struggled against relegation for 7 years.

The problem I have with your argument is that you see yourself as referee, but you do not set a time limit for the length of the game in advance. You simply call time at any point that is convenient to support your argument. If Danny knew he had only 1 year, then his strategy would not have been a long term one. He would not be building with young players and those from the academy. We all identified that the short term fixes used by other managers had not worked and a long term plan was required. However, at the first sign of trouble, caused as much by injuries as anything else, you want to blow the whistle on Danny's reign and get someone else in.

Now, at this moment, I have absolutely no idea whether Danny will ultimately turn our club around, but I do think that if the man who took us to the promised land cannot get the fans forbearance for a minimum of three years, then there is absolutely no chance for any individual that might follow him.

So we've won more, scored significantly more goals and accumulated more points than the previous two seasons. That's an improvement, that's progression. No opinions, no caveats, no explanations, just the stats liked you asked for. Let's see if you can accept them. I've got a feeling you won't, I've got a feeling you'll start offering opinions and explanations that, as you've already stated, dunt really prove owt.

 

That's a good post, except for the 3 years of forbearance.

Rebuilding a team does not by it's very nature require us to be relegated again this season.

If we are so relegated, I can forbear no further.
