I don't want to sound heartless, but I'm not sure I agree with this.

Do we start having applause for everyone who dies in Barnsley? I'm aware this probably makes me seem like a tw@t, but where do we draw the line? And what makes him "the greatest Barnsley fan"?

RIP and all that, but I don't agree with a minute applause for this. Sorry.

Don't want to sound like a tw@t either but what if his son/daughter reads this comment after just losing their dad so close to christmas ? Some things are better left unsaid (in my opinion)
    RIP Jack and god bless

So what if you agree or not! He was a loyal Barnsley Fan all his life (who knows if he is the greatest).

Is clapping for a minute so hard for you? Get it done! It be a good sign of respect for one of our own that as passed

Where do you draw the line then? Do we have a minutes applause for every reds fan who dies? Like I said, RIP, but I never met him, and I've never heard of him until today.

I'm sad a loyal red has died, but a minutes applause is to show appreciation of someone's life, and I have no idea what he's done in his life.

Jack Mawby was one and will always be one of Barnsley's greatest fans, I had the privilege of working with at Willis food stores and knowing through our shared love of Barnsley football club. What defines a great fan? Someone who supports their club through good and bad times, home and away without fail. Jack, along with a group of others, which included my nan, who Jack always looked after (I will never forget his support) on away matches, travelling with the Mount and later on with the Hoyland Reds. Jack was a quiet man and appeared that to many but rest assured, in stature he was and always will be respected as a great bloke by many...the greatest reds fan, there have have been a few and will be more; what I will say, jack is the benchmark for fans, in terms of loyalty, respect and love of Barnsley Football Club!

Rest in peace Jack and say hello to my nan for me, I'm sure you will have plenty to talk about with the current state of play with YOUR SUPER REDS!

Maybe we could have a minutes applause in the 88th minute for my Grandad who died on Friday IMO he was the greatest Barnsley fan ever after all he took me to my first game V Blackburn in 1985

I probably spoke too rashly, I apologise profusely if I offended anyone, especially Jack's family.

I didn't mean it how I assume it sounded, I merely meant that I don't believe it's what a minutes applause is for. I didn't know Jack, nor have I ever heard of him before today. I don't know what I'd be applauding, other than that he was a Barnsley fan. Like I said, it's sad that we've lost a fan, especially one who has served the club for so long, but it's different to when someone famous dies, who everyone knows. Not saying that someone famous dying is more important, of course.

I don't have a problem having a minute's applause for Mr Mawby, or Bryn's Grandad. Showing respect to a fellow Red is hardly a chore. If someone objects to it, then simply don't take part.

We only need to clap for 60 seconds FFS

i will gladly clap for another loyal Barnsley Fans who has probably spent thousands of pounds watching the reds home and away.

And if it means clapping every game for someone then so be it

Some people like to moan for moaning sake

Do you think it makes it less special if we do it every game? Genuine question.

Nobody is forcing you to applaud, it's not like a minutes silence where people who don't participate are shhhhhh'd.

Go for a bovril / exit / boo the team, do whatever you want. But when your time comes, I'm sure your family would want to look back and celebrate in the things that you enjoyed doing.

No i don't is my honest opinion

for the sake of 60 seconds we might just help that family come to terms with their loss. ( if that's all it takes to help someone out than i am in)

I would rather clap for 60 seconds for a fellow loyal BFC supporter than 60 seconds for a cricketer that i had never heard of and no relevance to football never mind Barnsley

    Each to their own

Probably not, and I regret doing now.

Again, sorry if I offended anyone, particularly Jack's family.

You don't need to apologise you wasn't disrespectful and if his family read this thread i'm sure they see the point you're trying to make. A fan of ours probably passes away every week. It's sad he's passed away and so close to christmas makes it worse. If people want to applaude good on them. To treat all deceased fans equally though we'd have to have an applause at every home game.

We all say things without thinking sometimes pal. Respect for realising and acknowledging it.
