1978 at Oakwell against Port Vale If I remember correctly we won 6 2 and Allan Clarke scored a Hat Trick
Reds vs Grimsby in Danny's first season, was it 4-1 with 3 from Andy Payton in the pssing down rain and sleet ?
Mine has to be Stockport away in 2001. We were ***** that year, especially away, and being young and pissed, it was great seeing us win away and singing that to the tune of Jingle Bells. Carlton Palmer scored an own goal, player manager for them at the time. I was extremely drunk that day. Sheron scored n all. Remember us smacking Grimsby 4-1 in Danny's first season too, which was enjoyable as they used to be a bit of a rival in them days. We've not had much luck in recent years. Lost our last four Boxing Day fixtures, all at home too.
As above, Stockport away in 2001/02 season. One of very few highlights that year. Remember Morgan scoring and everyone going mental. The Palmer goal was icing on the cake too. Would love to see Stockport back in the league actually, decent place to go.
Seen us three times at Stockport, won all three. It's the most successful away day for me. For that reason, I hope they rise back up the divisions.
1985..............think we drew one each with huddersfield at leeds road.......high in table n took 1,000,s..............great old ground with that massive terrace.
Ha hah hah I was there that day and we played well, and a Gary Jones had a stormer. My friend, and a poster on here, claimed he was "The New Neil Redfearn" Hence the ha hah hah
It was in town that night after going to that game I met the my better half for the first time. Obviously has to be my best boxing day memory...... lol
That's mine too. Wasn't this the game where Millar stood over the ball ready to take a free kick and the Port Vale keeper was running from one side of his goal to the other lining his wall up. The ref then blew to take the free kick with the keeper stood by one post, still trying to organise his wall, so Millar just dropped the ball into the other side of the goal. Me and my dad got home, really excited that we had scored so many and I just couldn't understand why my mum wasn't interested. I had presumed that everybody in Barnsley would, by now, be talking about how great we were. It was then I realised that Barnsley FC wasn't the most important thing in everybody's life like it was mine!
Probably that 4-1 win over Grimsby in 1994, top class performance. Followed 24 hours later by a 3-0 beating away at Portsmouth, Gerry Creaney hat - trick in first half, drenched on the away terrace.
Tranmere at home early 90's. Getting called a w@nker by John Aldridge after he missed a pen in front of ponty
I was there that day. I thnk David Hirst scored for us. It was obvious we'd end up giving him away to someone. Just wish it hadn't been them.
Chesterfield away, 1980. 0-0 but was in the middle of that long unbeaten run (I think). Proper old ground, loads of Reds fans, freezing cold and singing "Norman Hunters Red n White army" all the way through. Epitomised all that was good about my favourite spell of being a Barnsley fan. Halcyon days.
Re: Beating Stoke 3-1 1995 Been some goodens especially the ones mentioned port vale etc also enjoyed the Hartlepool one and Tranmere in recent times. But the one that stands out for personal enjoyment for me has to be Burnley away. Had a great day out in Accrington with most of my current football mates and dropped on some great lads whom I hadn't seen for years. Had a great session in some top reasonably priced and good beer hostelries in Accrington .then on to Burnley for a great win courtesy of a certain player on loan who's name escapes me (will co e to me as soon as i touch send lol) but we had been after him Perviously on a permanent deal. Great day really enjoyed it.
Stockport away. From "Carlton Palmer, you're a w*nker, you're a w*nker" to "there's only one Carlton Palmer" in seconds amused me. oh, and we crashed in the car park as well. grrr
