Nope cant agree with you at all. Poor player, typical modern day player. Bang average at everything .

 

Such a limited footballer, in my opinion. Never quite appreciated the love in for him. But each to their own.

 

Very underrated, united have looked a lot better since his return from injury. Keeps things ticking in midfield, similar player to bailey.

 

Makes a decent pass every few matches.....couple of good tackles a season. .

I don't watch enough live Premier league games to judge but just read an article about him on the BBC... Sir Alex reckons he's the best English midfielder in the game today. That can't be right surely? Does 'keeping things ticking in midfield' mean playing 5 yard sideways passes?

 

Rather play a 5 yard pass than launch a ball up into the pointy

 

I think if you were the manager of Carrick, you would realise his value to the team.

He can do everything a holding midfielder needs to do - tackle, pass short, pass long, shoot, organise, break forward when necessary.

The type of player that makes a team "tick".

Note : he aint bad at centre half as well.

 

You need a small cog in a big machine. Football is littered with players of his type who do an unflashy workmanlike job. Take a look at Didier Deschamps - you think Zidane was winning all that ball on his own?

 

I think he's brilliant.

Similar words on this thread have been used to describe Bailey "sideways passes, limited etc", but since his return from injury we've kept two clean sheets, and the opposition haven't done a tap in midfield (I know one was a conference side, but look at the difference in the two midfields from the two matches against Chester).

He then frees up Hourihane to go forward and he gets less stick from the neanderthals who want him to get stuck in every five seconds.

 

I think he's arguably Ferguson's best signing of the second half of his time as manager. They hadn't won anything for a good couple of years when Carrick came in. He completely sets and dictates the tempo of their play. Great positioning and range of passing too. As a centre half I'd have loved him playing in front of me.

Good consistent premiership player but has a tendency to go missing in the big premiership, European & international games.

There's no shame in that though, still a very decent player who's had a fantastic career

He's a lot better than Tim.

I remember when Cleverley kept getting a game for England & people were defending it saying we kept winning with him in the team but people seemed to be forgetting we were playing teams mainly of a championship & league 1 standard

 

I've always enjoyed watching this type of player turning out for Barnsley. The one who quietly goes about his game, linking play, keeping possession, allowing the more naturally gifted & creative player the time, space and opportunity to do their stuff. For example Bettany, McHale, Bosancic, Burns and, currently, Bailey.

 

In my experience carrick is the go to player for people who want to look like they know loads about football to call under rated and bang on about their technical understanding of the game means they see him as one of the best. Pseuds.
