Easy peasy - all autoroute from the ports. The A1 is their equivalent of the M1 and saves the best until last when it drops below one of the runways at Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport. Traffic is busier the nearer to Paris you get but it never gets as bad as some our congestion. Speed limits are slightly higher - approx 80mph but in bad weather of if there's a lot of pollution in the air around Paris they reduce the limit but you'll be warned on the overhead displays. The other half will need to be your eyes as you enter the autoroute from the slip road as looking over your shoulder for a last minute check is harder on the 'wrong' side of the road. so it helps if your passenger is a driver. Another thing about the AI just below Lille it runs parallel with the TGV line and you're cruising down the A1, sun shining and then all of a sudden a Eurostar goes hurtling by and you realise your 80mph is pootling!!
Hubby's driven me there a few times. The drivers in Paris itself are absolutely mental but the drive there/back is fine. If price doesn't matter than flying is always going to be easier and cheaper.
Seconded. The ring road in Paris made the M25 look deserted. And this was on a Sunday morning, which I expected to be clear.
Paris is a sh*thole though outside of the main tourist areas, if you must go I'd go on the train from St Pancras though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Paris have the worst drivers I have ever come across, they make the car drivers in Rome seem pussies ! Do not even attempt to drive by the Arc de Triomphe , utter fecking loonies !!
they sell new cars in with dint in, in france dont they? toss drivers and they use bumpers for exactly that.
Forget about it. The drivers and roads in Paris are a nightmare. You are on the wrong side of the road to us, and if like me you are comfortable with that then there are the drivers. The Spanish are gentlemen compared to that mob. Multi lanes and lights and nobody gives a **** for anyone else, just blow their Horns at one another. Get a cheap flight. Then chill out.
As others have said the drive to Paris is straightforwards. Driving in Paris itself is a bit different. I've done a fair bit of driving in France and generally it's better than driving I. England but Paris isn't for the faint hearted especially if you don't know exactly where you are going. Drive to a hotel on the outskirts and get the RER in or just get the Eurostar Or see if you can get a cheap flight
Worked and drove in Paris for 4 years. Once you get on the peripherique (ring road) only one rule. If you are half a metre ahead of the adjacent vehicle you have the divine right to go across him (bit like our truck drivers).
