Only seen it just now on the highlights but it looks like Berry hung his leg out and the player ran into it and then fell down as if he had been bayoneted. Did anyone behind get a close view that suggests he didn't foul him? There didn't seem to be any intentional lunge like some players do and, in any case, why would he do that just there?
We were right behind it and thought it was very soft. But Wilson said he had no complaints so perhaps my bias just kicked in and over-ruled my objectivity. Also annoying was the fact that the danger should have been cleared before the penalty incident.

No, Berry didn't get any of the ball at all. I think it was just naivety on his part to leave his leg hanging there for an experienced/cheating forward to fall over and then appear to be mortally wounded. Bought the penalty, ref completely conned (at least that is how it looks on the tv replay). Unless someone behind the goal with a clear view through the bodies could enlighten me otherwise?
The player didn't have the ball under control, and that's not because of the contact with Berry, that was after, so for me no penalty.
It's a penalty all day long I'm afraid. 10 years ago it wouldn't have been, but with today's culture of 'if there's contact, go down' any sort of tackle in the box where the defending player doesn't clearly get the ball or bring it under control is going to be awarded as a penalty. I don't agree with it in the slightest but Berry made contact with man and didn't take the ball with him, no matter how minimal the contact was.
Wasn't a pen imo I thought we should have had a free kick on the edge of the box for the foul on Hemmings before the ball went back into the box
At the time I thought it was all avoidable, and watching it back it plays out exactly the same!! Hemmings needed to be more aware and stronger, he didn't get his body in front of the ball enough, in fairness....he was shocking and hardly touched the ball all game!! Berru was also not quick enough and gave the referee a decision to make, soft but we would have wanted a pen!!
At the time and from behind the goal, it looked like he'd swung a leg at the ball and made contact with the player, soft but a penalty these days. Opinion hasn't changed. Welsh goes down easy but swinging a leg at that height in the box, in the direction of their player, was asking for trouble. Would've been furious had it been at the other end and we'd not got a penalty.
Clumsy challenge to make. Can't take the risk of having a trailing leg in the penalty box. Had it been at the other end i'd have wanted a pen for us too.
