Poor, downtrodden, mistreated victims of over-zealous coalition cutbacks. Of course that only applies when discussing politics on here.

Lazy, incompetent feckers who couldn't react to 2 days of freezing weather. Of course that applies to them today it seems.

    Just an observation.

Probably no budget for gritting given the scale of cuts. But don't let that stop you from beating people when they are down. Who will be left to fight for you?

Budget cuts mean that most of those that would gave done the gritting are now 'employed' in some call centre and for those that are left there's no budget left to actually grit in. Anything other than a dire emergency.

Oh no it is down to laziness. I also think that any striking worker should have the army used against them. Now where's my cigars and champagne?

And another thing. The highways dept in barnsley lost two thirds of its staff over the last 18 months either via redundancy or realising they xan get better elsewhere. ESL did gritting for the council. He now works for Amey in sheffield.

You'll also notice the recent relaying... badly.. of thenpavements. External sub contractors.

Of course. But that is how it is now. Council workers had pensions you know, we can't be having that...

Nowhere have I personally called them lazy or incompetent. The last line says "just an observation".

    read elsewhere.

Would never put anyone down affected by the scale of these cuts, which, FWIW I fully disagree with.

I do love a misinformed council rant. This bbs doesn't disappoint in that regard. Clueless.

Edit - apologies Andy, re-read it now. I'm still hungover it seems.

You do realise he wasn't having a go don't you, just pointing out how some people don't see the irony in changing their views dependent on prevailing circumstances

Seeing as we are currently paying people to be unemployed, why not put them all on a zero-hour government contract. If you want your dole this week go out and clear all the snow from your street... 2 Hours shovelling for your benefits.

Expect this to be in a manifesto within ten years.

Won't be long before gritting is outsourced anyway (probably), the council can then spend twice as much for half as much gritting but not have to shoulder the blame.

To be honest the main roads are very clear, I'd never expect hundreds of miles of backstreets and residential areas to be gritted but surely it wouldn't take the council long to sort out the areas around a big professional sporting venue.

I struggle to understand this ......... can't imagine Meadowhall / a large ASDA or Tescos with a massive car park closing their doors.

As I say, I struggle. Should we applaud the decision that the club cares that grown-ups might slip on a pavement miles away, or should we slag-off Meadowhall for not giving a hoot about the same ?
