Been informed Jokewell will be looking at around £4k per 24 hours for undersoil heating to be switched on.

It snowed 3 days ago on the evening of the 26th so 9am on the 27th the ground staff should have had the undersoil heating on.

Been down this morning to sort some match day tickets out and even Stevie Wonder can see the pitch still has 4 inches of snow on it from Boxing Day evening and absolutely nothing has been done by 'marquee signings Ben' to get this game on. The undersoil heating has never been turned on, hence why the pitch has a beautiful thick carpet of snow on it still.

Call me cynical but player injuries and a few thousand pounds cost meant the game was never going to be played, Bull Sh*t Ben's plan backfired because he was hoping the game would be called off for the surrounding streets being iced up and not the players safety.

This clown can't even get a few televisions turned on on the concourses so why would you trust him to do the decent thing like turn the undersoil heating on and put out a request for volunteers in return for free match tickets to clear the ice and snow.

Community club my f*cking arse, Barnsley FC is on its absolute arse and is a million miles away from its supporters and days like today just confirm it all for me. Bull Sh*t Ben talks like a politician in Westminster, all wind and p*ss.

When we finish in the bottom third this season Ben, see how many season tickets you sell next year, you'll be able to fit them all in the ponty.

Stronger Together ??? we would be today if you had switched the undersoil heating on - once again the lifeblood of BFC its supporters have had the absolute p*ss taken out of them.

Love how our fans have a degree in under soil heating engineering.

    You're all wasted on here.

Enlighten me, how have you had the piss taken out of you? You've been informed eight hours before kick off, you've had the opportunity to hear the reasons from the CEO, you've probably had a text message direct to your phone. Proper piss take ......

You'll be back on all praiseworthy when you want tickets for a big game though

Have you been down to Oakwell this morning like I have ???

Wish I could have taken a picture of the pitch as it has a blanket of snow on it still.

The £4k per day for the undersoil heating was a statement made to me by somebody who works at Oakwell.

4 degrees today the weather says, three days of undersoil heating should have left the pitch clear of snow by this morning would you not agree ??

Riddled with injuries and a £12k bill for heating, that's why the games not on, if it would have been Man Utd at home live on tv in the 4th round of the FA cup the game would have been played, that's why we have had the p*ss taken out of us.

I honestly couldn't tell you how under soil heating works, and that's not just to defend the club that's just the truth. I only read today that it doesn't work when the temperature is -5 of lower (it was -4 overnight on Boxing Day, so maybe that's a day you've lost there?).

You're basically calling Ben Mansford a liar, which you're entitled to do if you believe it, but we've lost money by cancelling tonight's game so you would have to understand fully what that value was and balance it against the £12k cost of the heating.

You haven't had the piss taken out of you though, I'm not even entertaining that.

Not that I know how undersoil heating works, but I'm fairly sure you can't just have it on whilst it's snowing, or to melt the snow on it, because you'll end up with a waterlogged pitch. It's there to stop the pitch freezing, not to melt the snow.
Could the club have got the game on? I don't know, but I've even seen comments from people stating that they should have waited until later in the day to make the decision - honestly can't please everyone. I think making a decision at midday is a good move, to ensure people haven't already set off for the game. If the roads around Oakwell are anything like the roads around where I live then I'm not surprised it was called off - it was ok for me being the only car moving on my street at 7am, but to have loads of cars on the roads around Oakwell 12 hours later would be a different matter.

I'm not gonna go as overboard as some, but to the layman this does look like no attempt has been made to make this pitch playable. The ground isn't frozen, even without undersoil. There isn't an excuse in the land, for the pitch still being snowcovered

Loko, I'm sorry but Ben Mansford comes across as a cheesy politician to me, I don't trust a word that comes out of his lips. He can't even get a few TV's to work on the concourse !!!

The pitch this morning was white over, no piles of snow around the edges, the stands were covered also. Look at the football league highlights and all the pitches had piles of snow around the edges, it was obvious that no attempt had been made to clear the pitch of snow, and how do we know the undersoil heating had been constantly on for 3 days as Ben says ???, if so why is the pitch white over still.

Anyway, we can debate all day long, I think they never intended to play this game all along due to injuries.

Undersoil Heating for 3 days = a green pitch and huge piles of snow around the perimeter and stands clear of snow. Not what I saw this morning, exactly the opposite.

Re: £4k per 24 hours to have undersoil heating on - and there my friends is the answe

Eastander, 4 inches of melted lying snow equates to around a quarter of an inch of rain, the modern drainage systems at Oakwell could easily cope with that.

I was down this morning for tickets, the pitch / stands were white over with no piles of snow around the perimeter.

If our under soil heating had been on for three days then they need to put another bar on the gas fire !!!!!

Just don't trust Mr Mansord that's all, think he'd be better in Westminster !!

They could have advertised for volunteers in return for match tickets to clear the snow, Mansford said the roads had been gritted by the council around Oakwell ????

Hope you're watching Sky Sports News now.

You could use your degree in under soil heating engineering to challenge everything Ben is saying.

Game called off, can't do owt about it, stay indoors and keep warm tonight.

I was annoyed when I saw it was a Monday evening as back at work and hate night games - at least it'll be a warmer night game when it gets played.

To the layman perhaps. To a groundsman the snow can be used to insulate the ground. Mentioned here:

Hmm. Seems to have gone up an awful lot in n 2 years. We spoke to Don Rowing last time this happened and he told us it costs £42 an hour to run the undersoil heating and was cheaper than calling a game off.
