I did. A day and a half in the new job, decided quickly I'd made a mistake, rang old employer up who took me back next day as they'd not wanted me to leave.

I did it twice with the same company! First time left, did a 6-2 shift. Sat in my car, rang my old boss, went straight back to see him and restarted following day! Knew it wasn't for me.
Latterly left for a couple of years, went back.

Knew somebody else that did it. Left for a month, went back to the old company and ended up with a job on his old site.....but with a promotion and a pay rise :D

I've never done it but a couple of lads at our place have left and come back to us. If they're good lads we do try to take them back but they generally have to start again on entry level T's & C's.
