Correct , dont get me wrong , I'm no fan of any of the bigger clubs , but I can recognise a true great player when I see one and Gerrard for me would go down as one of the best.
Who knows , will Man Utd win anything again or are they in decline ? I'd think Liverpool will pick up the odd trophy but can't see them ever dominating again.
There is probably more chance of Man U winning summat again than Liverpool. Unless they find £500 million from somewhere!
There probably is more chance Man U winning summat , but you never know for sure until it actually happens. Who'd have thought Liverpool would go into such decline after dominating for so long or that Man City would come along and overtake Utd as more likely to win the league the last couple of years.
absolute legend Stevie G.....magnificent player . anyone who thinks otherwise knows absolutely fek about footy....which does explain / describe a lot of the clowns on here hopethishelps cos it should
Yes your right....SG is probably 1 of the finest players to ever play in the premier league. In reality a move to another club would've been his best option 6/7 year ago but credit to him he's showed more loyalty then 95% of todays players!!
Got told this over a month ago. A mate got told it off his old uni mate who's dad knows the pitch announcer at Anfield. Apparently been pretty well known that his house was going on the market from plenty of folks seeing estate agent types at his property. It's about five years too late and he's off to a poor league. I think he will always regret going down the Le Tissier and Shearer route of showing too much loyalty so not winning as much as the talent deserved. He should have signed for a Spanish/German club best part of a decade ago.
Couldnt lead his Liverpool team to a win over a Barnsley eleven that consisted of such average footballers like Steele Foster Hassell Devaney though.
A cracking player in his pomp but has been way past that level for a few years. His England career hasn't hit the heights of his Liverpool career though, largely disappointing. Nowhere near the best player Liverpool have had though, Dalgleish takes that honour, the more discerning Liverpool fans would agree. Souness, Rush, Hansen would also feature above him, there'd be others too.
One of the best English players on the PL history. One of the top ones I've enjoyed watching. Passion, skill, work rate, passing, vision, tackling, goals, set pieces, hes got the lot.
Nowhere near their best player , really ? The ones you listed would all be up there admittedly but Gerrard would easily be amongst them. Imagine Gerrard playing amongst those great teams that they played in during the 70s and 80s. Hes managed to win 10 trophys while playing in some pretty ***** teams. Only Dalglish would challenge him in my opinion.
I work with a Liverpool ST holder (I car share with him), he's a stalwart, been going since early 70s, used to run a supporters club and a fanzine. I've had this conversation with him and he is of the same opinion as mine. He also says there are older fans than him who talk about players before his time as the best ever. You're entitled to your opinion mind.
I had this conversation last night and I pretty much said what you have said. King Kenny would be voted their greatest ever player in any pole done, I have no doubt about that. I'd also say that I think Souness was a better midfielder.
Plenty of ex professionals think he was the best , Jamie Carragher , John Aldridge , Jamie Redknapp etc But your right, it is all about opinions , just surprised with yours that he would be nowhere near the best.
Maybe a bit exaggerated, but to me if he's not top 5 that's nowhere near. And I do honestly think that Kenny D is streets ahead of him on ability.
Dalglish was better and I'd agree with Mario about Souness - case for the likes of Ian Rush as well - you had to witness these players to see how could they really were. Think a lot forget there was life before the premier league
