Yes - Boro are riding high in the Championship. But can't we have a go? Davey's team probably wasn't much in advance of this one when we had a right go at Liverpool and Chelsea. We were going through the motions today - at best.

Hourihane - WTF? Is he colour blind? Couldn't find a red shirt to save his life, and did absolutely nothing to alter the game. Showed about as much leadership with the armband as Cranie (please Hull, please!). When Boro couldn't quite find a way through, he gave it to them. Needs to step up on this.

Digby - He's like the big daft lad that is always picked last for the teams in the playground. No insightfulness, no physical presence (despite being 6'3"?), and yet again - puffing like a carthorse after 30 minutes. England's youth squad must be impoverished if he keeps getting a game, yet he looks so poor - even at this level.

Hemmings - Gamble failed, Danny. Move him on. He ain't got it.

Lita - Has so clearly gone. Would have been a great signing 3-4 years ago, but retirement beckons. Harsh, but true. And better eyes than mine have formed that view.

I've no problem with Smith, Holgate, Berry (a lot didn't come off - but at least he tried), Jennings (ditto), Nyatanga, Ramage and Turnbull. But you can't carry four passengers against a talented Boro side - even a weakened one. Our recruitment is looking more and more like a play on the lottery. Cheap buys - hope something will turn up. Flog off the youth assets (how long will Holgate be here?) and hope for the best.

We have no plan as a club. Things can change, but at present - THIS CLUB IS GOING NOWHERE!

    Anyway, Happy New Year everybody!

No doubt that we are going through a tough period on the road to rebuilding the club but giving up now and starting again is not the answer. The plan is clear to anyone that wishes to see it; bring through academy players, fuse them with young players bought from elsewhere, and punctuate with a handful of experienced players and loans to round off the squad.

There's still a lot of work to be done and a some signings will invariably fail and need to be replaced along the way, but time is key. Pu55ying out now because it's a difficult time is not the answer.

Nobody would be more pleased than me. But to be honest, Whitey, does it look probable at this point?

I still believe that there is no-one better (that we can afford) than Danny to take us forward at this point. But facing facts, he was able to do nothing to alter our trajectory last season (tall order, admitted). And the recruits this season have proved patchy, to say the least. I've heard it said by those closer to the club than me that his success with us last time around owed a considerable amount to others in the setup - namely Eric Winstanley, and the scouting staff we could afford to maintain at that time. Our recruitment has become a lottery/guessing game. And yes, some will say he plucked Charlie Austin from non-league, but what was the 'attrition rate'? And can we afford that level of gambling as a club?

I'm afraid that unless something changes, I stick to my former remarks. Doesn't mean I'm a doom monger/moaning minnie, but I am a realist.

You're entitled to your opinion, I read and value everyone's.

But I think we will go somewhere, in time. A positive somewhere.

If we don't, we don't. But I don't get fun out of predicting doom and fearing the worst. I support BFC and hope for the very best.

And that's not what I suggested. But it's as plain as the nose on your face that we need a big, ugly holding midfielder and preferably something similar at the back. And no-one is better placed than Danny to realise this. Except he doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. Or is the Cryne Junior factor impacting on this? Either way, we can't make progress until it's sorted.

Maybe he is working on it? It could be that he just hasn't found the players he wants yet that are available to him? Maybe it's that simple an explanation.

Me neither, Friend. But we're in the eighth year (or thereabouts) of scrabbling around and making no progress as a club. There will be those whose support is unconditional. But equally, those who demand some form of entertainment/ uplift from attending will be approaching the end of their tether. As I'm still around, I suppose I don't know exactly where I fall into in those categories! But the end of the rope is being reached.

And consider this. Despite what they may think, the 'loyal' brigade are of less concern to the club than the floating voters - because they will always come. But increased revenue will always depend on attracting the additional crowd. The club is becalmed - at the very best. And some would say sliding.
