Is it really coming up to 20 years ago since big Malc scored that piledriver against Sunderland on a wild and windy Friday night. Weather tonight's brought it all back. And made me feel middle aged.

I think you're right with 2-0. I'm sure the match was towards the end of the season.

Didn't he get 'released' straight after? What actually happened? Does anyone know?

He was still there at the end of that season when we beat the Blunts 2-1 thanks to Brendan O.

He left two or three years later to become manager of Oxford United, didn't he?

I think he left the club during the promotion season, or early in the prem season. Was it to become Oxford manager? Last I heard of him was a Mercedes salesman in Huddersfield.

I'd like to reply to Big Lil but it's not letting me. The **** is happening here?

I'm pissed and maybe it's me. Just a thought, Andrew.

Mel Machin released him after the Sheff Utd Cup tie in 1990, 2-2 draw. Apparently had a disagreement with John Deehan on the team bus and tw@tted him.

Generally like to think I can "handle myself" & I don't mean that in some sort of post modern sexual way, rather to say if Malcolm Shotton was throwing punches you are down, down, down...

One of my best Oakwell memories. Our kid anted to go when people started panicking that the back of the east stand was going to blow down. I told him to shut up we would miss summat good then Malcolm scored. He was playing with a broken toe at the time. Hard bastad.

As for the Deehan fracas there are many blokes that you would pick a fight with Malcolm's not one of them. I knew a few of the team at the time apparently the debate was pretty one sided Deehan was an annoying character and Malcolm called him on it after one too many snide remarks.

Malcolm left after the scuffle then Danny brought him back layer as assistant manager and then he left for Oxford.

I remember a Sunderland fan getting on the pitch only for a police dog to rip a hole in his jeans.

The last time I saw him - Malc Shotton's goal was to buy pet food from the Pet Shop Unit up Barugh Green Road - and that were a couple of weeks before Christmas - so he must still live in the Barnsley area

I was stood at the back of him - he aint that tall in real life (compared to how he looked on the field). I told the lasses in the shop that he was a famous Barnsley footballer - one of them said 'yes, my grand dad used to play football' - what was his name I asked - 'Jimmy Greenoff'

    ............FFS !!!

From there I went into town - and called at Costa. I'm stood in the queue, I turns around and who should be stood at the back of me but Ronnie Glavin and this younger guy.
Ronnie says to this younger guy 'I'll find us a seat' and he goes and sits down.

I sez to the younger guy 'is that yer dad?' - he sez 'yes'..........which I sez..........'I wish he were my dad'..............he laughed
Then I sez........'I've seen some good uns darn at the WELL - but he's the best I've ever seen, but I suppose you hear this all the time'..........he sez laughing 'yep, I've heard that a few times'

    Barnsley..........a footballing town
