I don't see much of it to be honest and I think it gets more coverage over here than it deserves, but I can only assume it's a bit *****. I know the two top Madrid clubs and Barcelona are amongst Europe's elite, but as for the rest? Ronaldo and Messi are fantastic players, of that there is no doubt. However, their stats are just too good to be true. Ronaldo has 203 goals in 181 games - strike rate of 1.12. Messi has 259 in 295. No one at the top level of a supposedly competitive league should have a strike rate anywhere near this. Compare this with Ronaldo's strike rate at Manchester United of 0.43 and this puts it into a bit of perspective. Is La Liga much cop and is it anywhere near as competitive as the Premier League?
Some would argue its better than the premier league. I'm no expert by any stretch but I think the European Cup and UEFA cup stats from the last few years may support this.
Valencia and Sevillia are probably the Spurs/ Everton of LA Liga both have good money to spend but can compete with Real, Barca and Madrird
I'd fancy Leroy Lita to score plenty with James, Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema, Kroos, Khedira et al next to him.
The money from TV is distributed unfairly. Basically Barca & Real get about 70% between them & the rest share the other 30%. It just makes the achievements of Atletico recently & Valencia & Deportivo in the early 00's even more incredible. Sevilla & Valencia have both had big financial problems despite not spending massive money
Ronaldo is a different player these days, and plays a much more attacking role for Real than he did United. He's also had some amazing performances for Portugal, notably versus Sweden in the World Cup Qualifying game. Are Granada any worse/better than Burnley? Same with Elche and Leicester City? Also have to take in to account the style of football played in that league. They get so much more time on the ball it's easy for super talented players to make something happen. And then add in what Whitey said about who he plays with - that team is far better than the United team he played with.
Sevilla are Europa League holders. Valencia got to the semi-finals. La Liga is miles better than the Premiership, at least as far as the top half is concerned. There might not be much difference between Almeria and QPR, or Getafe and Hull, but only Ch£l$£a would have a chance of beating Real or Barcelona (the latter will absolutely destroy Manch£$t£r City). Atlético put Ch£l$£a out of Europe last season, too.
I'd say there was an argument that both the league and the elite clubs are better but its all a matter of opinion really.
Can't separate the two leagues for me. However, the premier league is miles more entertaining than la liga.
Way better. You can only consider European results & despite the money the Premier League is way behind. Time for a rethink
You don't mention Atletico Madrid The Spanish Champions and Champions League Finalists (they were within seconds of winning the final). You should watch them instead of the other two, they play a much more British style of game but with very skilful and hard-working players like Turan, Koke, Juanfran and Greasman. These days they regularly beat Real Madrid and have a decent record against Barca. That was where Costa, Falcao and Torres became the finished article.
Re: You don't mention Atletico Madrid Prefer the Bundasliga to either. Spanish football is excellent at the highest levels but in 95 matched festuring one of the top teams and AN other the result is obvious before the start. Read an article about Barca and RM that basically said a draw is as bad as a defeat for them against lesser teams. The Premiershit has less quality but is more evenly balanced and as a result can be more interesting to watch (though I gave up years ago)
The Premiership is pretty poor outside the top six. Spurs, Sevilla, Liverpool and Valencia are all much of a muchness. Real Sociedad are like the Newcastle of Spain. Burnley and QPR would finish near the bottom three in Spain.
The Bundesliga and French leagues both suffer from having one team that is much superior to the others (like Scotland for the last few years). Both Bayern and PSG are too much better than the others. The Eredivisie is one of the fun leagues (highest goals per game in Europe IIRC).
Surely, the main factor you have to take in to account is when he signed for Man Utd he was just a kid. He was 18 and still learning the game. He got better and by the end of his time at Man Utd he was scoring at a rate on par with that at Real. In his first 3 seasons at Man Utd he played 137 games in all competitions and scored 27 goals. In the next 3 he played 155 games and scored 91 goals. Only 18 more games, but 64 more goals! 2007-08 season: 34 Premier League games, 31 goals. And he was only 24 when he left so he was still getting better. His stats at Man Utd are skewed because he was still a kid.
The French league is actually very open this season with 4 points between the top 4 teams and lyon at the top
