This one might be a bit tougher. Of the Barnsley players with more than 10 starts in a season, only two have scored more goals than games played, that is their statistics are better than a goal per game for that season. Who are they?
This is a toughie because they were both some time ago. Just to keep the interest going, here are some honourable mentions just below a goal per game. Abe Blight 1934 3rd Division N 34 starts 31 goals Cec McCormack 1951 2nd Division 37 33 Riccardo Vaz Te 2012 Championship 12 10 John Wallbanks 1933 3rd Division N 26 20 George Reeves 1907 2nd Division 18 13 George Lillycrop 1910 2nd Division 32 23 David Geddis 1985 2nd Division 14 10 Ashley Ward 1999 League 1 17 12 Tommy Taylor's best was 19 goals in 28 games. He only played 44 league games for BFC in total and scored just 26 goals (plus 2 goal in 2 games in the FA Cup. It surprises me just how few games some of our legends actually played for us. For example, Cec McCormack, who hold the record of goals scored in a season, and who was spoken of by my parents generation as a legend played just 50 league games (42 goals). Pongo Waring who was spoken of in the same glowing terms played just 18 league games scoring just 7 goals. Yet John Wallbanks, who scored 63 goals in 117 games is hardly known and George Reeves, who scored 27 goals in 30 league games is hardly known. I wonder how some players become legends and others, often with better statistical records pass through the club unheralded.
Ernie Hine had two spells at the club playing a total of 291 league games and scoring 124 goals. His best season was 1922/23 when he scored 24 goals in 42 games.
Am I right in thinking Kim Christensen (sp) never started a league game for us and scored a league goal? If I remember right the only game he actually started was in the league cup vs Newcastle. I could be wrong.
